Eddie through the Queer Ear
so I just watched Twilight (2008) for the first time in its entirety after adopting Beau/Edward -life and let me just tell you, with that framing, Eddies dialogue and awkward behavior comes across, to me, so much different, which is to say, gay. To me, he comes across as a closeted gay guy, who has a crush on Beau and really wants to act on it, but is too scared to.
“Look, I’m... I’m sorry I’m rude all the time, I just think it’s the best way.“
“We... we shouldn’t be friends“
“I only said it’d be better if we weren’t friends, not that I didn’t wanna be“
E: “It means if you were smart, you’d stay away from me“ B:“Ok, well, let’s say for arguments sake that I’m not smart. Would you tell me the truth?“ E, looking just the most scared: “No probably not...“ a little more confident: “I’d rather hear your theories.” transl. “I’m too scared, I need you to say it.”
E: “I don’t have the strength to stay away from you anymore.“ translation: “I want you to know about me, I want to be with you, and what I feel for you might even make me want to come out.” B: “Then don’t.” transl.: “I know, I accept you, and I wan’t to be with you too.”
B:“Why did you hate me so much when we met?“ E: “I did. Only for making me want you so badly. I'm still don’t know if I can control myself.”
And this gem: E: I wanted to kill kiss you. I’ve never wanted a human's blood someone so much in my life. I’m dangerous to you us.
Eddies angst about being a vampire can easily be re-framed as angst about being gay in a early 2000′s small rural town.
