Honestly, if you use carnival / fair people as the bad guy plot devices in a story, yet obviously know nothing about that life I will come for you in the night with my baseball bat. It’s so easy to use us as the bad guys, because that’s what media fucking keeps on doing, but each time you use the setting and link it with violence or abuse you’re only enhancing the danger placed upon actual human beings.
We’re already considered lower in society, we’re already threatened and called scum on a regular basis. Violence towards carnival / fair employees is still real. Discrimination and profiling against people with surnames common in the carnival / fair world is still very real. It’s easy to write us up as the bad guys without a second thought, but the impact of such representation - even if it’s just on a tumblr rp - is also still very real.
