“Well, one cannot go wrong with flowers, can they?” True, there’s nothing wrong flowers, plus they weren’t too sure of Iori’s taste’s in design. They were already buying some clothes & accessories anyway, so they thought to buy something for their future sister-in-law.
“Speaking of flowers. We were going to pick some for the vases in our rooms, they need some fresh ones. Would you like to come with us? I think it would be a nice chance for us to get to know each other!”
On the One Hand- Death: 8- Learning New Things isn't Always Fun
Chapter: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8
It wasn't long after towing the heap of an Impala home that Sam showed up, obviously distressed and under a lot of pressure as he studied the car with a similar expression to what Sonya had earlier. "Sam- this just ain't worth the work it needs." Bobby tried, watching the taller of the two brothers pace around the car before reaching into the back seat and digging out a broken laptop the two of them missed while clearing it out.
"I say we take what we can, then sell the rest for scrap." He added, turning his attention to the car. "The frame's a pretzel, the engine's ruined... There's barely any parts worth salvaging..."
"No, Dean would kill us." Sam shook his head and put the laptop on the roof of the car with a frown. "He's gonna want to fix this up when he gets better."
The way Sam's voice hitched the slightest bit at the end of 'better' brought Sonya's attention back around to him as he stared down at the car. It didn't sound good from what she could pick, then again she wasn't exactly very good at picking up social cues. "Well... At the very least I can scavenge from the old cars and put what can help next to it for him." She piped up, shrugging her shoulders when Sam shot her a grateful look. "Yeah... That would help, thanks."
"No problem, it would give me something to do at least." Sonya offered softly, tucking her hands into her jean pockets, ignoring the small smile Sam sent her way before refocusing on Bobby again. "Here, uh, Dad asked if you could get this stuff for him." Pulling out a piece of paper, he held it out to Bobby.
Sidling up to the older hunter, Sonya peered over at the list of items written down and frowned slightly, sharing a look with Bobby when he glanced over at her. "What's John want with this?" He asked Sam finally, looking over at him with a small frown tugging on his lips.
"For protection- from the demon." He answered, confused when the other two shared another look, Sonya's head shaking ever so slightly before she took the paper from Bobby and heading back towards the house to start gathering the stuff for him. "What?"
Faintly Sonya could hear Bobby try to brush off Sam's question just before she opened the door and stopped just inside with a low sigh. If their Dad wanted items to summon a Demon and tried to pass them off as protective items to Sam... She could understand why Bobby didn't care much for the man, not like she could say the same, but what little she did know of him at this point, she didn't think she cared all that much for him either.
Stuffing the last container in the bag, Sonya shut the kitchen drawer and moved into Bobby's study, setting it down just as the two of them walked inside. "That's everything, you need to find a better hiding place for the roots though... The drawer it's in is too damp for it to stay usable." She stated, earning a small, familiar grunt from Bobby as he strode over to open the bag and start searching through it.
"I'll get some containers for it." He muttered, turning to hand the bag to Sam then locked eyes with Sonya, his eyes sharp and serious. "I want you to go with him." He finally said, earning two surprised looks. "Look, John wants to summon the demon, fine, but with Dean out of commission at the moment, it would be better for Sam if there were another pair of capable hands to help if things get outta hand."
"Bobby-" Sam started, only to be cut off when the older man held up a hand.
"No, if yer daddy is gonna go into this without any planning, then I'd feel safer knowing someone's there to watch yer back. I won't take no for an answer." He added when Sonya opened her mouth to protest as well.
Letting out a quiet sigh, Sonya looked over at Sam and offered him a helpless shrug. "I'll uh... Stay out of your way, probably in the waiting room if you want." She murmured, running a hand through her hair with a frown. If Bobby was worried about one demon, then it must have been a bad one. Generally they were bad, granted. But to insist on her going to help despite the brightness of her soul to help Sam... Then this one must be far worse than the usual brand.
"You got a car?" She asked suddenly, watching Sam grimace slightly and shake his head. "Alright, is uh... The Capri good to go?" She asked, turning to Bobby with an expectant look on her face, a small smile spreading across her face when he grabbed a set of keys off of his desk and tossed them over to her, catching them easily.
"The reverse is sticking, don't parallel park if ya can help it." He pointed out before turning to Sam again. "Look, I know ya can take care of yourself, Sam. An' she don't look like much-" He ignored the indignant 'hey!' from Sonya as she twisted her head around to glare at him. "Bu' she's good at what she does. She'll help more than you think."
Huffing silently, she let his comment go and hefted her canvas bag onto her shoulder and walked over to wait by the door, turning to see Sam pat Bobby on the shoulder in a familiar way before moving to join her. "I'll call you when we get there." She told the older hunter when he glanced over at her. With a quick wave the two of them stepped out of the house, Sonya taking the lead and moving around the edge of the house towards where the Capri was parked.
Unlocking the doors, she tossed her bag in the back along with Sam and climbed into the front seat with a huff. "Gotta get these changed out." Frowning slightly, she wiggled around, trying to get comfortable where springs weren't poking her from behind. Looking over when the passenger door opened, she watched Sam climb in and fold himself into the seat beside her. "I take it you aren't fond of small cars."
"Uh... Yeah." He muttered, adjusting the seat so it was pushed all the way back and stretched his legs out with a soft grunt. "Not exactly comfortable."
"I can imagine. My uh... My brother was pretty tall too." She offered, turning the key in the ignition and shifting the car into drive.
"... Was?" He asked quietly, his eyes flicking over to where she sat, directing the car out of the salvage yard and onto the road. "Uh... Sorry to hear-"
"He's not dead." She interrupted him with a small shrug. "But... Considering how things turned out for me, he might as well be." Flashing him a small smile that looked more like a grimace, Sonya flipped a hand beside her as if brushing off the comment. "I'd rather know he was safe and sound away from all of this crap, you know?"
"Yeah, I can understand that." Sam nodded slightly, feeling a bit bad for the girl he didn't really know. "Uh... You mind if I ask how-?"
"Long story short, I was sorta... Dropped into the life." She hedged slightly, not sure how much she should tell the man beside her as she pulled into the highway. "Bobby found me, decided I was worth saving and helped me learn how to deal with the things that go bump in the night. Granted it was small things he had me go hunt at first... Uh, the demon you and your brother brought to the house was the first I had run into before."
"Yeah... I actually got some questions about that." Sam commented, thinking back to that day and frowning slightly in confusion. "What was with that exchange between you two?"
Sucking on her lower lip in thought, Sonya tossed a searching glance over at him then turned back to the road. "How about I tell you when I get to know you a little more, yeah? It's sort of a sensitive issue for me." She finally said, one hand pulling away from the wheel and reaching up to tug out a small folder tucked into the sunshade, tossing it onto Sam's lap with a small smile. "Why don't you pick a CD for us to listen to? Bobby won't let me play them in the house."
Recognizing her attempt to change the subject, Sam frowned slightly then flipped open the folder, scanning the titles curiously. "The Doors? David Bowie?" Looking over at her, he smiled in amusement at her sheepish expression. "What? It's good music." She shot back defensively, her lips curling up in a smile of her own when she saw his hands raise up in mock defense.
"Nothing wrong with that, you just don't look the type is all." Pulling out one of the cds, he popped it in the player and pressed play, the familiar sounds of David Bowie beginning to fill the car. "Oh, this is a good one, skip to number five for me, would you?" Sonya bounced in her seat with a sudden fit of excitement, her hands tapping on the wheel in time with the music once Sam complied.
"Space Oddity?" Sam finally asked, listening to the lyrics beginning to play, looking over at Sonya with growing amusement. His dark mood from Dean's condition waning somewhat at the look of pure, childlike happiness glowing on her face at the music. "Hell yeah, man. I love this song!" She laughed lightly and flashed him a wide smile. "One of my favorites actually. First song I ever heard him sing and just fell in love. I'd marry that man if I could."
"Sure." Chuckling slightly to himself, Sam closed the folder and reached up to tuck it into the shade over him, settling back into the seat to relax on the car ride back to the hospital. His thoughts already turning to the darker ones that had been plaguing him since the accident. Dean, unresponsive... And now his Dad planning on summoning the same Demon that caused all of this to happen in the first place. Stewing silently, he turned his head to look out the window, watching the trees and cars pass them by with a small frown beginning to grow on his face.
Stepping out of the car, Sonya looked up at the hospital with a slight grimace. "Man I hate these places." She muttered to herself, turning to Sam as he pulled the bag of ingredients out of the back seat and shut the door. "Yeah, I'm not exactly fond of them myself." He agreed, leading the way up to the front entrance, Sonya hurrying to catch up with his longer strides.
Stepping inside, the two of them stopped at the reception as Sam signed back in as a visitor before he lead the way to the elevators. Pressing the call button, he looked over at Sonya and watched as she seemed to shrink in on herself with a grimace. "You're that uncomfortable?" He asked finally, an eyebrow raised slightly when she looked up at him with a frown.
"Uh... Yeah." She said finally, choosing not to go into detail as she stepped into the elevator with him and watched as he punched the second floor button and the doors closed. "Not exactly fond of any of this to be honest."
Nodding slightly, Sam glanced up at the floor counter then stepped off once the doors open, heading down the hallway without a word. Hesitating slightly near the waiting room, Sonya glanced in his direction, not exactly sure where she should go.
Stopping and looking back at Sonya, Sam raised an eyebrow and gestured slightly with his hand. "You coming or not?" He asked with a slight tilt to his head. Earning a small, grateful smile from her as she hurried down the hallway towards him. It wasn't hard to imagine she wouldn't be much better alone in the waiting room considering how bad she already was walking with him downstairs.
"I can uh... Wait outside." She offered when they stopped outside of one of the rooms, Sam reaching out to open the door before pausing to look down at her. "Yeah... If you don't mind. Just for a moment." He muttered, already figuring it would be better for her to stay out here with what he had in mind to say to his dad.
Nodding quietly, she moved aside and leaned her back against the wall, glancing down the hallway as he pushed the door open and stepped inside. "Be out in a minute." He muttered and stepped into the room.
Glancing over at the open doorway, Sonya blew a strand of hair from her face and offered a smile and nod at a passing doctor when one walked by. 'tell-you-hear me' Frowning slightly, she rubbed at her ear and glanced up at the speaker in the ceiling above her that was playing some random song softly. 'Something-hospital. Now you've-me-and we've-hunt-Sam!'
The faint voice left a ringing in her ears as she rubbed at them again with a grimace. Okay, that wasn't exactly what she expected, Hospitals? Hunting? Sam? Those weren't lyrics. Not ones she knew anyway, looking around, she tried to figure out where the voice was coming from, one hand coming up to rub at her eye automatically when the familiar blur at the edge of her vision appeared again.
A sudden clanging noise from the room made her jump, head twisting around in time to see Sam glaring at the older man on the bed with obvious anger. "Did you think I wouldn't find out?" He demanded, staring him down as the man on the bed reached for the bag. "What are you talking about?"
Recognizing a family argument when she saw one, Sonya shifted on her feet and moved farther down the hallway, giving them privacy as she tried to ignore the raised voices drifting out of the room behind her. Pausing at the next room, she peered inside to see a familiar face laying prone on the bed there. "Oh no..."
Stepping inside, she stopped beside Dean's bed and stared, horrified at his condition. "This is bad..." She whispered, taking in the sight of all the tubes, wires and IVs attached to the man, keeping him alive as best they could. "No wonder Sam didn't say much."
The sound of breaking glass jerked Sonya's attention away from the battered body on the bed, feet already carrying her to the doorway so she could peer out of the room down the hall towards the next one over. A sudden rush of cold air blowing past made her shiver, hands rubbing against the gooseflesh that rose on her arms in reaction before an alarm started to go off on one of the machines behind her.
Spinning around, she stared wide-eyed at the heart monitor as it flat-lined, prompting a small stream of doctors and nurses to rush past her into the room. Stepping out into the hall, she stared as they all gathered around Dean's body and started working on him furiously, attempting to bring him back. Looking up at Sam, Sonya flinched slightly at the expression on his face as he watched them work on his brother.
"All clear." One of the Doctors stated, holding up the paddles and pressing them to Dean's chest, jolting his heart with a quick shock. One of the nurses checked the monitor then shook his head. "Still no pulse."
"Again, 360." The doctor ordered, watching as the nurse tuned the controls.
'Get-away.' Looking around, Sonya frowned at the soft, ringing voice and stepped back from the door reflexively. 'I-get BACK!' Flinching at the loud and clear voice, she jumped back and stood on the other side of the door, ignoring Sam's glance in her direction before he looked around confused.
"We have a pulse... Back into sinus rhythm." The doctor announced suddenly, regaining Sam's attention as they all stepped back away from the bed and began clearing up.
'Don't worry- Not going- getting- before- it gets- some-of spirit.' Looking over at Sam, Sonya frowned at him as he looked around once again, his eyes locking with hers, eyebrows furrowed slightly. 'I could- it. if I- grab- can- kill it.'
"Sam..?" She asked suddenly when the voice fell quiet, his eyes flicking around the hallway before landing on her again.
"Did you... Hear something?" He asked slowly, watching as she chewed her lip then slowly nodded her head. "Yeah... I've been hearing... Something since we got here." She admitted quietly, head turning from side to side as she studied the hall. "I thought it was the radio at first but-"
"But what?" He asked, moving closer and watching as she fidgeted in place a moment. "Sonya, what did you hear?"
"I think I... I heard Dean." She finally admitted to the vague thought that had been forming in her head. "Saying your name." Looking up at him, she frowned slightly and rubbed at her face. "I thought I was going crazy for a moment there."
"Yeah... Me too." He agreed, looking down the hall before gesturing for her to follow him. "Come on. I need to talk to my Dad."
Nodding quietly, she followed behind him and into his father's room, stopping just inside the doorway as he moved over to stand beside the man's bed. "Dad... This is Sonya. Another hunter." Sam explained, waving over at her and making her lift her head and offer a small smile at the man, as she stepped forward to shake his outstretched hand. "Hello."
"Sonya huh? Never heard that name in the hunter circles before. I'm John." He said easily, studying her face closely before letting go of her hand and settling back against his pillow with a curious expression on his face.
"Oh, I'm not that good at what I do." She said sheepishly, one shoulder shrugging up as she tipped her head to the side. "I generally stick to ghosts, ghouls, vampires and the like."
"Really? You're still alive, so you must be good enough." He commented, earning a faint smile from the girl as she settled into the chair beside his bed as Sam paced around to the other side. "Dad- I think uh... We think-" He gestured to himself and Sonya as he spoke, regaining his Father's attention. "We felt something."
John looked between the two of them, from Sam's expectant expression to Sonya's uncomfortable one then frowned. "What do you mean, you felt something?"
"I mean... It felt like Dean." Sam gestured with his hands slightly, at a loss as to how exactly explain what it felt like. "Like he was there, just out of eye shot or something. I don't know if it's my psychic thing or what- Actually..." He paused and frowned, glancing over at Sonya as she shifted in the chair under his scrutiny. "How did you feel anything if you aren't Psychic?"
"Uhm..." She mumbled, looking up and staring like a deer in the headlights at the two men while they studied her. "I... I didn't feel anything."
"You said-"
"I heard something." She corrected him before he could continue, frowning slightly in thought. "Sort of a... Quiet voice, it was making my ears ring actually."
"You... Heard a voice." John's flat tone told her all she needed to know and she grimaced slightly, nodding with a bit of reluctance. "A soft one... Sort of... Like a radio stuck between two stations. I only caught part of what they were saying." She tried to explain, glancing between John and Sam with a sigh.
"Look, I don't know anymore about this than you do now. I'm not exactly prone to hearing voices you know." She added defensively, getting to her feet and crossing her arms over her chest. "But, I do know I heard it say Sam's name then mention something about hunting." She added, watching both of their expressions shift slightly, not enough to make her feel like they believed her, but enough to know they were at least taking what she said a little more seriously.
"It said my name?" Sam asked, moving around the bed again to stand beside her, ignoring John's quiet huff of irritation.
"Yeah, then while we were outside of his room..." She paused, glancing around the room uncomfortably when Sam's expression shifted. "It kept saying for something or someone to get back."
"So... He's here. Somewhere." Sam said, looking over at his Dad with an expression that clearly said he believed her. "And something is in his hospital with us."
"Sam, we don't know that." John tried, looking between Sonya and his son with a frown.
"You don't think his spirit could be around? Waiting for his body to get better?" Sam demanded, watching his father deflate slightly and slowly nod his head.
"Anything's possible." He finally admitted, watching Sam straighten up where he stood before moving towards the doorway, motioning for Sonya to follow him.
"Well there's one way to find out." He declared, moving aside so Sonya could walk out first, stopping to look at his dad when he asked where they were going. "I gotta pick something up, we'll be back."
"Wait- Sam." John's voice stopped them just outside the doorway, Sonya hesitating a moment as Sam turned to look back at his Father. "I promise I won't hunt this demon. Not until we know Dean's okay."
Studying his dad for a moment, Sam nodded sharply then turned to lead the way down the hall back towards the elevator doors with Sonya hurrying along beside him.
"Care to share with the driver where you plan on going, or are you hoping I'll guess?" She asked finally once they were inside and the doors were shut.
"I don't know, you tell me." Sam said suddenly, making her blink at the serious tone in his voice when he looked down at her. "How can you hear a voice and I can't?" He asked, his eyebrows drawn together when she frowned slightly in confusion. "I didn't tell you I was psychic until just now, but you're the one hearing my brother's voice?"
"As far as I know, I'm not psychic." Sonya tried to explain, both hands coming up in a shrug beside her as they stepped out into the lobby and headed for the doors to the parking lot together. "I just... Heard it, that's all. It's not like I was trying to or anything."
Sam was silent until they got to the car, both of them climbing in and buckling their seat belts before he spoke again. "I didn't know I was either until I started getting visions." He admitted, staring hard out the windshield as she started the car, letting it idle for a moment.
"Well... If I am or not doesn't matter. Right now, we need to figure out what's going on with your brother." Sonya finally said quietly, pulling the car out of it's parking space and out onto the road. "Now, where are we going?"

“Just, hurry back, John, you know I can’t live without you.” Amy walked down the hall and hang up her phone. She walks into the room with a frustrated sigh. “Hey there.” She looks at the chart. “I’m Nurse Amy.” She smiles. “I see you need some have a nasty cut on your hand.” She grabs some gloves. “So can you tell me what happened, Peter?” She says checking the name. She leans over to look at his palm. “Good news is you won’t need stitches.” She smiles. Her necklace, the one a girl gave her many years ago hung out over his hand. For a split second she felt it tug against her neck. It was filled with a green shiny dust and a small fairy holding the vile.
“Bad news is that cleaning it, will most likely hurt.”
I'm going to start reblogging some cute animals. Bunnies, Hamsters, Puppers, Kittens, etc.
