Employee Journal Entry:
Hey everyone! My name's Becca and I'm one of the main moderators for the D&J Hobby Tumblr page. I've been working for D&J Hobby one year this month (exciting!!). I currently am a manager and absolutely love my job. Coming from working at a few other places that shall remain nameless, working at D&J has been a blessing.
The main things I do here are help run and moderate the Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments we run every Monday night at 6pm with my co-worker Dan, make sure my employees are happy and getting their breaks and lunches as well as being one of 3 main RC repair techs. Before working at D&J, I hadn't touched an RC car in about 10 years but fell right back in love with them. Being able to be so hands on with the cars, showing kids and/or parents how to fix everything from a driveshaft to replacing/upgrading the motor and seeing how excited they are when the car is all fixed is just absolutely the highlight of my day. There is so little that is better than that.
Since working at D&J, I've also been introduced to plastic modelling and let me tell you something. Holy. Crap. So cool! Taking all these little random little plastic pieces and building this awesome WWII tank or Hawker Typhoon is just so much fun! It gives me a reprieve of the mundane, everyday things and I get to make just the coolest things.
I'm also very into playing Magic: The Gathering, though, admittedly, I'm definitely not one of the better players. A lot of my friends and co-workers are into so it's definitely a great time whenever we play.
I have to say though, that despite all those wonderful things about my work place, is that my favourite is the environment. All the regulars we have are just the best. Our regular card players are so welcoming to newcomers and our regular RC guys love to talk to the newbies and help them figure out what they should look into in the future and our plastic modeler guys just have the best advice for anyone building a model. I know I appreciate their help!
We're open 7 days a week, 10am-9pm Monday through Saturday and 12pm-6pm on Sundays, and I'm here most days. I love talking to new people and love answering any and all questions you might have so feel free to stop by whenever!
