few years ago there was a neighbourhood cat that regularly visited us. so regularly that we named her Spiku and would let her into the house if it was particularly hot or cold. she’d stay an hour or so and they would want to leave.
That doesn’t sound too bad, I wouldn’t mind a situation like that. Though my mother will probably complain about cat hair and her allergies. I wouldn’t mind setting some food/water out for her to make sure she doesn’t starve, but that’d probably attract wild animals...

I am having an absolute brain fact trying to find. McShep fic and you are always the best person to ask. It's one of those John Is A Robot Fifa - though I'm not sure if he spends more of the time as a conceptual AI Rodney and Zelenka are building, or if he's an actual bot. They're on earth, Atlantis isn't a thing, I don't think. It's multi-chartered, and I think there's a sister version of it/a retelling from another POV? Is my description absolutely lousy? I can only think of two Robot!John fics off the top of my head, and I’m leaning toward Scruffy AI being the one you’re looking for.
Lavvyan wrote two fics, one where John is revealed to be a robot, and one where he’s revealed to be human. Taste_is_Sweet remixed the one where John’s a robot, which I think is the one you’re looking for.
