oumota during chapter five in the hangar makes me so fucking sick to think about. quite literally no one else was in the room where it happened. we'll NEVER know exactly how it went down because that's precisely as kokichi intended. even kaito, who was literally there and actively playing perhaps the most important role of kokichi's plan, remained confused as to how honest kokichi was truly being during those final hours.

again, exactly as kokichi intended.

a big part of kokichi's plan, I believe, is that he couldn't be mourned, as mourning would distract the survivors from. well. surviving. he needed to be hated so that that spite and that hatred could fuel everyone else just as it fueled him. of course, this, in part, backfires on him—kaito doesn't believe in him quite enough to full-send the plan, and shuichi isn't quite as empathetic towards him (partially due to the whole flashback lights remnant of despair thing, but still) as he needed to be to consider kokichi's angle here—but the intention absolutely existed.

this is something I'll repeatedly touch on throughout the duration of dead horse. I have my own interpretation of how everything in the hangar went down, and as kokichi is our pov character, he obviously knows what happened. it's deeply, deeply traumatic and he's repressing the fuck out of those memories right now, but trust me, they're there.
