The Romancing of Becky Jack Chapter 1 [SNEAK PEAK]
By Akke Andringa, based on Shannon Hale's "The Actor and The Housewife" ' "I ask you, my dear Becky Jack, what is air?" Felix Callahan choked over FaceTime. Yep, Becky FaceTime, a member of the future now as the British actor had gifted every Jack with multiple iProducts. Becky also had a major problem. As usual her problem was dealing with Felix's dysfunctional life. /Think logic, Becky. Felix doesn't respond to logic, Becky./ "Air is a mixture of oxygen, tiny sediments, and other gaseous elements which we breathe in order to survive." Becky sighed with the hint of a smile, an inside joke with herself. She was much more confident now. More confident than she'd ever been in her life. Single woman with perfect kids and irresistible best friend. /Oops. Can't let Felix let me hearing me describe him like that. It's toxic for his ego. What am I thinking? He's not RPattz mindreader./ "Well your gaseous mixture isn't working on my bodily functions. I might as well be breathing the emissions from Hyrum's butt." "Don't be gross. My son may have a cute butt, but lets not talk about what comes from it." "You're the gross one, darling, calling your own adolescent son's butt cute. Appalling." "I have any right to call my son's buttocks whatever you like. You're just jealous." "Sure. No help me." Felix whimpered. /Whimpered!/ "I'll help you when I touch down in Heathrow in 24 hours." "Gasp, you just mad me ten thousand times more nervous. The Jack Girls' first overseas trip-to my home, no less. I'm so excited my stomach is imitating your ice pixies." "Don't stray from the goal, Felix. My main reason for coming is to support you in Celeste's presence." "Don't lie. You want to see the city. Get your creative juices flowing, perhaps write /The Housewife and The Rockstar: The Musical/ in the overpriced hotel I provide." "I'm not lying. I'm also there to oogle over Bellamy." She could hear the weird facial expression that the 2-year-old's name brought on. "I should also probably avoid the theatre. Horrific childhood experiences and all. And I thought you were going to have us at your place." "Yeah, you see, my place is still as messy as when Celeste left it..." "Then clean it. Get your 50-year-old butt up and get your life together!" "Oh Becky, don't throw such dangerous numbers around! You press could be listening in." "Just tell me you finally learned how to drive." "Drive is a relative term? Of course I have. I might even give Polly and Fiona a demonstration of my newfound skills- although my lesson might not translate well into their wayworld American traffic." "Please don't run into the Tube." "Too late..." ' I must say that writing the dialogue between these two fools is the most fun thing ever. Shannon Hale has a blessed career.
