“You have been acting weird recently,” Kya put two bowls of soup on the table and sat in front of Lin. “Is everything alright?”

Lin wasn’t bothered anymore about Kya’s worried voice. At first she couldn’t stand it, she thought that she seemed weak in Kya’s eyes. She shrugged.

“Yes, it is,” she responded absent-mindly. “Look, you don’t need to worry about me, everything’s totally fine.”

Kya nodded but didn’t believe her. There was something in Lin’s behaviour, something changed in her way of moving, talking or listening. She seemed like she wasn’t paying attention to anything, like she couldn’t focus on basic activities.

“I’m going to take a shower and go to bed.”

“But you barely touched your dinner,” Kya squinted but didn’t stop her.

Lin disappeared in the dark of their bedroom. She sat on the bed and hid her face behind her hands.

“I would be alive if you were faster.”

“Why haven’t you found us earlier, chief?”

“Dad, I can’t bend anymore!”

“Stop,” she whispered covering her ears. “Please, stop.”

Suddenly Kya showed up and switched the lights on.

“Did you say something?”

“No, I just can’t find my t-shirt.”

“You mean this t-shirt?,” Kya pointed on the clothing lying on the chair right behind her.

“Exactly,” Lin smiled foolishly.

She was on her way to the bathroom when she heard a cold, flat voice. Her hands were shaking when she was trying to reach a door handle. She frowned and closed her eyes, breathing heavily. She leaned against the wall and slid. She put her knees close to her chest embracing them tightly. She hid her face, tears made her vision blurry.

“There are no more airbenders and it’s all your fault.”

“He is a bloodbender, please help me!”

“Stop talking! Leave me alone!”

She jumped when she felt someone touching her shoulder.

“Lin, say something please!”

“I can’t get them out of my head,” she sobbed with hands covering her ears. “Please, Kya do something, make them stop!”

“I can’t. Lin?”

“What?”

“Why did you let me die? Why haven’t you saved me?”

Lin’s eyes widened with fear. She wanted to hide, she wanted it to be a nightmare, she wanted to disappear.

“Go away!”

She closed her eyes.

But the voices were still there.
