#discoverboynevalleygreenway Have you visit Bective Abbey? Visit now! No admission fee!! Bective Abbey was founded in 1147 for the Cistercian Order by Murchad O'Maeil- Sheachlainn, King of Meath. It was Ireland's second Cistercian Abbey; a ‘daughter house' to nearby Mellifont. The Order had been founded to recapture the original simplicity of monastic life; this was reflected in their restrained buildings. Bective became an important monastic settlement. The remains now visible at the Abbey date mainly from the 13th to 15th centuries. They include the church, chapter house and cloister. The cloister ruins are particularly Well-preserved, and feature pointed, gothic arches typical of Cistercian architecture. The abbey was suppressed following the dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII in1543. The lands were then rented, and the monastery began to be used as a fortified house. Today, the ruins provide a maze of passageways with dead ends and interrupted staircases, all asking to be explored. Due to the attraction of its medieval ruins, Bective Abbey has been used three times by Hollywood producers: in 1995 for Captain Lightfoot starring Rock Hudson, the 1995 blockbuster Braveheart and most recently in 2020 by Ridley Scott for his medieval epic The Last Duel, starring Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer and Ben Affleck. #bectiveabbey #navan #countymeath #ireland #boynevalleygreenway #oldchurches #filmsets #irelandancienteast #visitforfree (at Bective Abbey) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIN4D9Ar4Tm/?igshid=1nurgzoxbvhyr
One year ago today, I went on a class trip to Bective Abbey and the Hill of Tara. It was cold and rainy but so beautiful! It was such a fun and peaceful trip. #BectiveAbbey #HillOfTara #Ireland #nostalgia #memories #IrishAdventures (at The Hill Of Tara) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqkvUxcgUuM/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=10fsegb572wf9

Before me is an open door Where it leads cannot be seen All I see is the corridor in front of me And behind me, the way I just came I know once I cross the threshold Nothing will ever be the same So I find myself with a dilemma To become a new person or stay the same? Where I am is liminal I am neither here nor there I am neither me nor am I anyone else Until I make my decision I take one more look back At the person I'd be leaving behind Then I look ahead To the person I would become I close my eyes and take a breath I listen to the beating of my heart I let my instincts lead me As I walk to my destiny #TheDoorOfChange #poem #original #doorway #BectiveAbbey #Bective #Meath #Ireland
My time in Ireland will soon be coming to an end in two weeks. It is very bitter sweet to be leaving this gorgeous place. I am looking forward to going home and being with my friends and family but I also love it here and wish that I was coming back after Christmas break. I'm gonna miss Ireland and the friends I have made so much! #tree #BectiveAbbey #Bective #Meath #Ireland (at Bective Abbey)
