How can bed bugs enter your home?
Most people who get bed bugs tend to be a bit embarrassed by it, because it is a common misconception that they occur in an unkempt or a “dirty” house. According to the New York State Department of Health, most cases of bed bug infestations occur because they are brought into the house from outside. Following are a couple of very common ways that this can happen.
Getting used furniture that have already been colonized by bed bugs.
Staying in an apartment, hotel or hostel that is already infested with bed bugs. They can easily travel via items you carry with you that have upholstered or soft surface such as backpacks, luggage or even purses.
How to make a bed bug spray?
The first step of getting rid of bed bugs would be to clean your bedding and your mattress thoroughly. Run all your bedding material through the washer with hot water and then run them through the dryer as well. As per the mattress, make sure that it is kept in the sun for at least three days.
You can make a safe and effective bed bug spray with the help of essential oils.
Once this is done, you can prepare and use a highly effective yet eco-friendly bed bug spray. You can do that by either using essential oils or rubbing alcohol.
How to make a bed bug spray using essential oils?
To make a bed bug spray using essential oils, you will need the following ingredients.
10 drops of lavender essential oil.
10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil.
10 drops of rosemary essential oil.
3 drops of clove bud essential oil.
Once you have gathered the ingredients, pour the water in the spray bottle, followed by the essential oils. Then close the nozzle and then shake the bottle vigorously for about a minute. Your homemade eco-friendly essential oil bed bug spray is now ready to use! Spray it all over your room, while paying particular attention to your bed and your bedding materials.
How to make a bed bug spray with rubbing alcohol?
In all fairness, this is so easy to make that I do not think that it qualifies as a recipe per se. However, it is extremely effective when it comes to battling bed bugs, hence I do need to mention it here.
All you would need is a spray bottle, rubbing alcohol and tap water. Just mix the rubbing alcohol and tap water in equal proportions and your homemade eco-friendly rubbing alcohol bed bug spray is ready to help you get rid of your unwelcome guests! You need to use it exactly the same way you would use the essential oil bed bug spray.
To my knowledge, both the essential oil bed bug spray and the rubbing alcohol bed bug spray are equally effective. However I prefer using the essential oil bed bug spray because it smells nicer.
