One of my favorite things about fan fiction is seeing an author put familiar, beloved characters in a setting that shows of some other additional passion or set of knowledge the author has. This is definitely one of those. The fic is excellent. Great meet cute for our two faves, but also the endless bee facts and bee puns and one of my favorite bits of dialogue between these two characters ever:
“They’re actually pretty cute, aren’t they?”
“Mn,” Lan Zhan says. “If they are not cute, they are wasps.”
“And wasps are?”
Wei Ying is expecting some kind of technical answer about the differences between various insects that buzz. What he gets is Lan Zhan gritting his teeth and saying, “Assholes.”
I just love this fic. Such a great Lan Zhan and a slightly manic but endlessly curious Wei Ying.
