Results: I kept waiting to use this product because, as a bar, it was going to last a lot longer than my liquid cleansers, which all had an expiration date. Now, of course, I've finally gotten around to using it and the brand has discontinued it! What a bummer, because I really do like this product. You can still find it on clearance from sites like HSN though, so at least there's that.

This is a fat little bar soap that's kind of awkward to grip at first until you start whittling away at it. When combined with water, it produces a thick, silky foam to wash your face with. It works great at removing makeup and doesn't over-dry my skin, although I do still have to add moisture back with other products afterward.

The one thing I have to watch out for, as with all Beekman 1802 products, is that I don't accidentally use too many products with AHAs in them. My skin is sensitive and will over-dry if exposed to too many exfoliants, so I don't use this cleanser every day. I skip a day in between to let my skin recover.

Comps: If you're really into the idea of a facial cleansing bar that exfoliates, there are a couple other options. Drunk Elephant JuJu Bar ($28.00/4.0 oz) has a physical exfoliant. Topicals has released a couple of body bars, but I think you could probably use them for face if you wanted to. Ethique Beauty Glowing Face Solid Exfoliator ($15.00/3.9 oz) is a great deal, and they've got other formulas if that doesn't work for you. I've talked about Good Molecules cleansing bars before. I've tried a couple. I think they're a great bargain. Kitsch apparently makes a Glycolic Acid Face & Body Wash Bar ($11.99/4 oz).

Beekman 1802 Buttermilk Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm

There's no added fragrance, but it has an unpleasant smell.

Results: This stuff is terrible, so it makes perfect sense to me that it was discontinued. It smells awful, which is a huge problem for something you're supposed to slather on your face. It doesn't rinse clean either.

You also wind up paying a lot of money for not a lot of product. There are fewer uses in the container than you think. Or maybe it takes more product than it should to actually get all my makeup off. Either way, it's not really an efficient use of my money.

This formula is also pretty high in AHAs, so if I use this, then I have to skip a bunch of other steps in my routine because most Beekman 1802 products have AHAs. It compounds and winds up over-exfoliating my skin, actually causing more dryness. It's not my favorite.

Also, I hate the component. It has this little spatula stick that's stored upright on the cap. I have to store my skincare products in pretty small drawers, so I tend to stack them up to conserve space. Having the spatula on the top means I can't stack anything on this component, and it's such a large component, I can't put it on top of anything either because it won't balance. I don't know, I just find things like that a little annoying.

Comps: I've used way better cleansing balms that were way cheaper. The Good Molecules Cleansing Balm is an excellent example of this; the price has gone up this last year from $15.99 to $18.99, but I still think it's a great product that's worth the price. BYOMA Melting Balm Cleanser and Versed Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm are right around the same price.

Beekman 1802 Milk Shake Hyaluronic Acid & Squalane Facial Toner Mist

There's a bit of natural scent from the oils and extracts used in this formula, but it's very light and hardly noticeable.

Results: For a dose of instant moisture, this is a great product. Spray it all over the face after cleansing. The mister is pretty fine, so it's not going to spit huge droplets on you; you can really go to town. I even use it multiple times during my routine as both a toner and a last step to seal everything in. I love it. You can also use it during the daytime to instantly refresh your skin.

That being said, there's no benefits to longterm use. You will still need other products that promote hydration rather than on-the-spot moisture if you have dry skin.

One other thing I noticed is that as you get down to the bottom of the bottle, the spray becomes more saturated with the oil mixture. This tells me that shaking the bi-phase toner to mix the oil and water components isn't as effective as they'd have you believe. You use the water component faster than the oil, so the bottom of the bottle is basically just spraying you with oil. Not ideal. It takes a long time to absorb and causes my makeup to slide right off.

Comps: Knours. Be Kind Hydrating Jojoba Oil & Aloe Vera H2O Double-Duty Mist ($26/3.72 fl oz) is very similar to Milk Shake in that it is also a bi-phase mist with oil and water components. A lot of the ingredients are the same too.

If you find that the mugwort is an ingredient that really agrees with your skin, I found an essence that is pure mugwort extract. It's I'm From Mugwort Essence ($40/5.64 oz).

Results: I actually had no idea this contained AHAs and BHAs in it. They are truly so gentle that even I can use this serum without increased redness or photosensitivity.

I think this is a good all-rounder type of serum. A couple of drops and my skin feels a little more plump and hydrated.

My only gripe is, again, the cost. It's $47 and you don't even get a full fluid ounce. What is that nonsense? The bottle design is quite deceptive. They're glass and quite chunky, but the internal reservoir is much smaller than the bottle itself.

Oh, and this does contain goat milk, so don't use it if you've got an allergy.

Comps: I like Cocokind's Ceramide Barrier Serum ($21.99/oz). It doesn't have the natural exfoliants in it that this formula does, so if you've got more sensitive skin, I'd definitely recommend it. Byoma Hydrating Serum uses a tri-ceramide complex, squalane, and glycerin ($16.99/oz). The INKEY List Ceramide Serum is also going to deliver barrier-soothing hydration without fuss ($15/oz).

Earth Harbor Horizon Ceramide Recovery Serum contains botanical extracts like this one from Beekman 1802, if you like having added benefits ($24.99/0.67fl oz). Anua Rice 7 + Ceramide Hydrating Barrier Serum is going to be similar in that is has a lot of potent extra ingredients to help brighten skin ($22/1.69 oz).

Results: This is a funky serum. It's costly price per ounce too. Their claim is that it's so concentrated, you don't need to use much. The recommended use is to add 1-2 drops to a pump of Bloom Cream, although you can use it by itself. It is a gel formulation, so it leaves your skin feeling kind of tight automatically.

I will say that I think it's helpful in decreasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time. My big forehead wrinkle is less noticeable.

The peptides made me a little more photosensitive, particularly when combined with the naturally-occurring lactic acid in the goat's milk from the Bloom Cream, so make sure you use SPF in the daytime when you're using peptides.

I probably won't repurchase this, even though I did like the CoQ10 in it. That's a nice antioxidant and not a lot of brands are using it. It's just too expensive for what you actually get.

Comps: Peptide serums are pretty common these days, so you're spoiled for choice. Ingredient-wise, Good Molecules Super Peptide Serum ($12/oz) is a pretty good match. I had a hard time finding brands I know to be reputable who are also using electric daisy as an active.

The INKEY List makes a Q10 Serum ($10.50/oz) that should work very similarly. In addition to having the antioxidant CoQ10, it also contains peptides to firm and squalane for hydration.

Results: I tried a deluxe sized sample of this product. This isn't made for my skin type (dry), so I had to alternate days when I used it to prevent over-drying. I felt like it was very effective at removing excess oil on days where I was wearing makeup and/or sweating a lot.

However, the day after I used this, I was always a lot more photosensitive. I think there's quite a bit of lactic acid in it; more than I'm used to, anyway. Of the two Beekman toners, I do better with Milk Shake. That doesn't mean this is a bad toner, just that it's not formulated for me. If you've got oily skin, this is probably much more effective.

Comps: Tula Skincare Clarifying Tonic Alcohol-Free Daily Toner ($28/5.0 fl oz) is slightly more expensive than Beekman 1802, but they are a reputable brand known for their acne-fighting products who also use probiotics in their formulas.

Facetheory Replenamist Hydrating Toner ($18/3.4 fl oz) is a UK brand. This toner features prickly pear and lactic acid as active ingredients.

Versed Weekend Glow Daily Brightening Solution ($17.99/4.0 fl oz) is an exfoliating toner that combines lactic and glycolic acids.

The INKEY List PHA Toner ($15/3.4 fl oz) is another exfoliating toner, but for those who struggle with stronger acids, polyhydroxy acid might prove to be more tolerable.

Beekman 1802 Bloom Cream Daily Moisturizer

Results: This is a weird one, so I waited until I really had my thoughts together before I wrote up anything. Initially, I tried a deluxe sample size of this product. The cream had separated in the component into a watery liquid with some pockets of cream suspended in it. No matter how much I shook it, I couldn't get the two liquids to blend. I decided to try a full size bottle before doing a write-up on it.

I bought my full size bottle as part of a gift set during Ulta's 2024 Black Friday Sale. I was using some other products at the time and decided to wait to open it. It is now May 2025 and I've finally gotten around to using it. The product should still be within date, but the same separation has occurred. I don't know if this has an incredibly short shelf life or if it's just always separated like this, but I don't know how anyone is getting those beautiful, creamy-looking "blooms" out of their pump. That is not the case here. Again, I've tried shaking it a lot to hopefully blend the liquid and cream parts back together. It hasn't really worked. If I flip the bottle over though and use two fingers on the same hand, holding the bottle with my thumb, to pump the cream into my opposite hand, it mostly pumps out blended cream. It's awkward to do it that way because the component isn't designed for that, but it's the only way I can get the cream and the component to work right together.

In terms of ease of use, this product gets a low score from me. I genuinely don't understand why my Bloom Cream keeps separating, and the component design is not friendly to use with a separated cream. When used as intended (upright), it spits out a bunch of water with a dribble of cream suspended in it.

Moving on from the weird and the mechanical, let's talk about the formula itself.

Frankly, this doesn't provide enough hydration for my dry skin. It's pretty watery, but my skin soaks it up fast. I would say this is more formulated for normal to oily skin. I wound up using an oil as a last step for more moisture.

As a base for mixing in their serum boosters, I think it works well. This is a pretty neutral formula, so any of their mix-ins are nice for additional tailoring. I used the Collagen Booster serum, which gave this more of a gel-like dry-down. I wonder if adding a couple drops of the Milk Drops Ceramide Serum or the Oh Mega Milk would give this more of a hydrating boost, even though they aren't designed as a booster.

Overall, it's fine. I probably won't repurchase though because of the cost.

Comps: BeautyStat Universal Pro-Bio Moisture Boost Cream ($50/1.7 oz), Korres Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Probiotic Gel-Cream ($42/1.35 oz), Neogen Dermalogy Probiotics Relief Cream ($39/1.76 oz), and OSEA Seabiotic Water Cream ($54/1.6 oz) are all good choices. So is Saturday Skin Pretty Pop Probiotic Power Whipped Cream ($45/1.5 oz), but it's not a clean ingredient formula, just fyi.

TULA has a bunch of moisturizers in their Probiotics + Superfoods line. Protect + Plump Firming & Hydrating Face Moisturizer is $68/1.67 fl oz. 24/7 Moisture Hydrating Day & Night Cream, Fragrance Free and Gel Cream formulas, are both $58/1.5 fl oz.
