Throw back to when Beeper made a whole new Beeper
Buffy Anne Summers, 1997 --- Sarah Michelle Gellar, 2026
Motorola Memo Express Beeper/Pager (1993)
Robot girl whose desperate to get tattoos. Sure she could just get designs painted on, but she wants something more permanent, more intimate than paint.
She tracks down a silver Smith who actually makes things by hand, rather than designing stuff in software and the 3d printing them. Begging the silversmith to to carve designs into her metal skin and inlay it with precious silver wire.
The first design is simple, just a circlet of twisted wire. It takes a day. Robot girl loves it, and leave happy. A few months later she's filled with longing, she wants to feel the silversmith's clever hands on her, feel the care she puts into every hammer blow, the delicate way she buffed up the silver inlay.
So she goes back, and gets a more complicated design. Being more complicated it takes longer, maybe a day or so. Perhaps the silversmith takes a little longer than necessary, because she enjoys her work, and the company.
This carries on for a while, the designs getting ever more complex, and at some point during a particularly impressive piece, the silversmith invites the robot girl to stay over. It'll save time, and hey, they know each other really well now.
There is, of course, only one bed.
Three designs later the robot girl moves in. Not too long after that the silversmith asks the robot if she trusts her. That she wants to inlay a special design, and that she needs her partner to be shut down while she does it. With barely any hesitation the robot girl agrees.
She turns back on, internal sensors show that time has passed, but not as much time as she expected. Barely anytime in fact. She searches over her body for the new design, but can't see anything. Then she sees it, on the third finger of her left hand, a simple inlaid band of twisted silver. She looks up at the silversmith, who's got a cocksure grin plastered over her face.
"Well, do you?" She asks the robot girl
"Yes!" She throws herself into the arms of her soon to be wife and they kiss.
