My next brewventure was made possible by Mike and the great folks over at Box Brew Kits find them on twitter at @boxbrewkits. Who is Box Brew Kits you ask? They are your helper in making your very own handmade small batch brew by providing you all the tools you need in their home-brew kits. The material is top notch and I would highly recommend their product.
This was my first solo experience into making some craft beer and it was awesome. I have to be honest when I say I was intimidated to brew by myself at home. The directions are step-by-step and really help you through the entire process from start to finish. In speaking with Mike (find full interview here) the founder of Box Brew Kits, I decided to make the Cloudy Daze Hefeweizen recipe one of his favorites. A great combination of Pilsner malt and floor-malted German Wheat make up much of the recipe. I took some photos along the way to give you a sense of the steps.
Mike’s Brewing Tips: You can’t sanitize enough, relax throughout the home brewing process and have fun with it. Don’t be afraid to go outside the box and be creative in the kitchen.
Brewing tips: Next time I brew I will make sure that I have three large pots 8-Qt or larger to make my brew. If you are looking to brew more than 1 gallon, I would suggest a 16-Qt stainless steel pot. I also would recommend having a spray bottle with water in it, to help to keep the foam under control is another idea too.
Why did I use this glass for the Cloudy Daze Hefeweizen you ask? See glass recommendations here.
