An Open Call to artists who have work that uses the theme of "Gold." No application fee! Deadline for submissions is Monday, 3rd December.
There’s a bold, tortured beauty to the portraits of Andrew Salgado, and in London, where the Regina-born-and-raised painter has lived since 2008, collectors and critics are noticing. His most recent collection and display, The Misanthrope, opened at Beers.Lambert Contemporary earlier this month, and by the end of the second day, more than half the paintings had sold. The work is complex and provocative in its technique and subject matter (there’s a portrait of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer), but this does not shy away from the stark beauty emitted from these large scale portraits, that share the characteristics and styling of the similar painters Benjamin Cohen and Jenny Saville (they are quite fucking similar, i know, but still, gotta respect the dude in his own right & skill) Id recommend a look, it was really fucking nice, plus its free.
Peace
