“An English Goodbye” Rome May be burning, but some anachronistic figureheads are feeling trapped by celebrity and stepping out of the spotlight...so extremely worthy and newsworthy? This week Harry and Meghan announced they’ll be relinquishing their royal capacities in hopes of a less public life; a story which for some warped reason has been treated with the same gravity as the brink of World War III which seemed imminent just mere days ago. It’s plain that the aspirations of fame and celebrity fantasy are more heavily valued in our society and it’s media mirrors than are the stories that shape are futures. The romanticizing of Empire and pop Anglophilia as embodied by The House of Windsor, are harmful in their idealist revisionism and they prove imperialism is far from a distant memory.
