The astrological sign Libra, meaning balance is usually depicted as scales. In close proximity to the Virgo constellation, it looks like Dike, the Greek goddess of justice, is holding the scales. Though back in Ancient Greece, the Libra constellation was thought of as the claws of Scorpio. Libra is situated between an innocent goddess and a deadly animal, emphasizing its equilibrium. The scales were accepted in Ancient Rome; Rome having been founded during a Libra moon. Libra was seen as special because it was associated with balanced seasons and equal length of night and day. Libra is an air sign and ruled by Venus, the Roman goddess of love.
Extra fun fact: Libra pondo meant pound by weight in Ancient Rome and this is why we use the abbreviation lb for pound and why the British pound uses an L with a line through it as its symbol.
