Some tips to not hating your art: A quick guide by an amature artist, me.
1. Draw for yourself. From what I've seen, if you draw specifically for views or follows, you won't be happy unless you draw for you first. Draw what makes you happy, then move onto what makes others happy.
2. Reflect on your old art. Yeah I know this is instant cringe for 90% of artists out there. But you know why it is? Because progress. You're so much farther than you were and you should be proud of that. Think about it. If you can make it this far, how much farther will you go?
3. Don't view others as competition. Doing this will make you hate your friends and hate seeing their work. You won't learn anything and you'll shut yourself out completely. If you view your peers as someone to learn from, you'll make progress a lot faster and feel a lot better about your skill level.
4. View mistakes as learning experiences. Do you ever upload a picture and realize you forgot to add something? Forgot to colour that spot? Proportion issues? Who cares? If it's too late to fix it, remember that. Next time you draw, remember to colour with a different background colour so you notice more stuff. Next time zoom out and flip the canvas over and over so you can find anatomy issues. It doesn't have to be the end of the world. Don't stress it. (and yes!! flipping the canvas helps a lot!!!)
5. Talk about things that make you insecure (preferably to someone who can critique you). This might help you find fields you want to work on.
6. Remember: EVERYONE IS A WORK IN PROGRESS Art is just everyone slowly getting better and practicing. No one is the best and no one is even the best they will be. Keep working on yourself and keep drawing. Even the pros make mistakes and want to get better!!
So please don’t stress out about not being where you want to be. You will get there, and you should appreciate the amount of work you put in to getting to each step along the way.
