Day 231#: Exophthalmus vitticollis
Today's animal of the day is Exophthalmus vitticollis!
This species of broad-nosed weevil is a member of the family Curculionidae, which is one of the largest families of animals in the world and has around 83,000 species described in it and 6,800 genera. Exophthalmus vitticollis itself inhabits the tropical rainforests of Guatemala and Belize, where it uses its light green coloration to blend into the foliage and hide from predators.

These weevils are generalistic herbivores and will feed on a wide variety of different types of plants. As larvae, they live underground and feed on the plants' roots, and as adults, they emerge from the soil and feed on leaves and shoots. They've been known to feed on many different types of crops, such as peanuts, mangoes, and citrus trees, and because of this, they (and many other members of their genus) are considered to be agricultural cultural pests. I couldn't find much else about this specific species of weevil, and to my knowledge, they don't currently have a common name.
