I propose Robert takes up crochet. Everyone can get very soft and cozy things from him like headbands, scarves, blankets, shawls, hats, all the good stuff. (Chad has the most things, obviously. And all stuff for fashion more than warmth, since he's a human furnace.) Because Robert Robertson III needs a damn hobby that has little to nothing to do with his mech suit! So I'm throwing some basic yarn and a 5.0mm hook at him! Starting chain stitching, Robertson!

Also, imagine Flambae being confused that a half-double crochet isn't just a single crochet, it's a different basic stitch. Meanwhile, Robert's casually whipping out Jasmine Stitch(the hardest crochet stitch, and a hell of a yarn eater) with little to no hassle beyond the occasional game of Yarn Chicken.

Brought to you by: I got back into crochet this year after almost 2 decades spent not touching it, purely because I discovered(and immediately got obsessed with) wearables. THere are some gorgeous pieces out there. I have so many things I wanna make, and not enough skills to make the things I really wanna make. The second paragraph came from family members' crochet-related antics.

I've posted a few times about it but I love the idea that Robert learns how to knit/crochet and makes a lot of gifts for the Z-Team 🥰 I think Robert, without thinking, will knit a scarf for Chad only to realize he doesn't really need it...Chad loves it though, and wears it mostly to brag until he overheats. Robert starts crocheting a lot more lightweight, summery stuff for him.

Everyone on the Z-Team has something knit/crocheted by Robert, and they adore them.

i keep thinking about wateroyd so. wateroyd scenario

z-team are genuinely curious on how waterboy's and royd's relationship works out. since you know, they have a visible size difference, so during one of their outings, they nudge herm for a little bit, asking if him and royd have done anything yet.

herm gets red in the face and he's like, "n–no! we've o–only... k–kissed. f–for a l–little bit."

and someone points out that they've been dating for a few months now and... they haven't even had sex yet?

and until then, herman didn't even notice it. he doesn't need sex from his partner, it's just a fun experience to have with them if both want it, but... what if royd just doesn't like him like that? usually partners have sex earlier, why are they not doing it? is there something wrong with him? is royd going to leave him because he doesn't find him attractive enough to have sex with him?

and he, to stop his spiraling, decided to go and drink his worries away.

he gets drunk pretty quickly. some of his teammates even egg him on, before robert tells them to stop and leave him alone.

herm gets so wasted, he starts drunk calling royd, asking him if he doesn't like him and why are they not having sex.

but because of how drunk he is, the only thing half-asleep royd can hear is sobbing and hiccuping. he just... tells herm he'll pick him up in a few minutes.

the reason behind them not getting intimate is... royd just wanting to savor their relationship. to show herm that he likes him for him. to have romantic little moments, without any further intimacy. if herm told him he wanted it, he would agree, but initially he just wanted to take it slow.

z-team and robert find out only when herm says he needs to check up on his kid during his break (sdn provide childcare for their worker's kids during work or something). somehow, robert missed that waterboy literally has a child in his paperwork.

and you know, the whole talking thing starts between them, because it's very clear they have feelings for each other. they went on a few dates already, and herm wants his kid to meet robert, since it's important for him that his child likes his new partner.

and they don't. the kid HATES robert. they don't want their papa to be dating anyone else, because they still think that he might get together with their other biological dad again, since they don't know the reasons behind their separation.

so they're very protective of their papa. the kid always clings to herm whenever they're close to robert and they always give him a very mean stare. they really don't like robert.

so when robert and herm's kid are left alone while herm went somewhere for a second, they end up having the conversation from moral orel.

herm's kid: robert... you like my papa the way my dad likes my papa, don't you?

robert: ...your dad likes your papa?

do you guys think that z-team would be there during the child birth, in the waiting room? because chase and herm's granny are definitely there, since they're the only family members robert and herman have, technically, but z-team is kind of a family for them too, do i'd imagine them being there as well.

so... do we think robert would call herm otterboy to tease him after he finds out about his... otterness? also, that man is stunned at how is it even possible for his boyfriend to keep getting cuter than he already is and would be completely fascinated by his ears and tail.

honestly? yes, i can see him calling herm otterboy, but rarely. just to tease him. while z-team on the other hand, just call him otterboy like it's his actual hero name. they went so far to fuck around with robert's computer and change waterboy's name to otterboy in the system.

and also, yes!!!! he is SO amused. he loves when herm doesn't hide his ears or tail around the house, because it's just so adorable. especially his tail, since there's not much information on why otters wag their tails, but they do. they usually wag it to help while swimming or to dry it off, but sometimes they also wag it when they're excited or playful. so he likes seeing herm wag his tail. he thinks it's so cute.

robert also starts using the word "otterly" instead of utterly when texting.

do you think when overwhelmed/really hurt waterboy just.. stops talking?

Like maybe he's thinking about how "granny needs another medicine, the cats need to be taken to the vet, the water damage is causing mold, i need to be a hero, etc." and when he spirals he just.

shuts down.

he doesn't talk much, he doesn't say hi to the z-team, he only mumbles affirmative and negative answers to different jobs.

On the other hand, during a mission, he gets struck by the villain. hard.

He groans (or makes any wounded noise) and asks for assistance before growing mute.

Z-team HATES when he does this. the second one especially. It makes them anxious because they go "hey waterboy are you alive.. hello??.. hellooo.... 🙁".

Robert has to look at his stats and reassure them that he's alive (he also felt incredibly anxious).

They hate seeing their bubbly, stuttering, personified ball of sunshine be so sad/hurt to the point of turning mute.

Honestly that whole “ah ha..ha..ha….mm…excuse me” moment he did I totally see this happening. I think it also happens when he’s like, upset.

When he’s stressed out he usually stammers more than usual and tries to keep calm but sometimes he just..can’t speak. He’s so stressed that speaking is a chore. He just…can’t. So he goes quiet.

When the others notice this they know he’s having a bad time and he’s stressed. Even when he’s stressed he’ll talk and panic, but..this is the mind trying to preserve itself.

When Waterboy gets hurt to the point he goes quiet, it has to be something REALLY bad. Mind you in his voice lines, he’s pretty chatty when he’s LITERALLY ABOUT TO LOSE CONSCIOUSNESS. So it has to be REALLY bad cause this guy is chatty when he’s hurt.

This has to be near death stuff. Like his body can’t heal his wounds fast enough and he’s bleeding out stuff. He goes quiet cause talking is too tiring. He tries but..he can’t.

As for upset, he’ll go quiet before he gets angry. He’ll definitely do an “excuse me” a couple of times cause he just wants to calm down. Other times, he doesn’t say anything. He’s just silent and he gives short “yes” and “okay” answers. He’s the sunshine of the team and these moments everyone feels guilty even if someone didn’t DO anything.

Heck it might not even be the Z team! Maybe it’s a REALLY bad villain or more than likely, a REALLY bad customer. An ungrateful hateful asshole who doesn’t even care Waterboy helped them. They are still mad.

He’ll go quiet for a bit but if it’s first shift, he gets it together. If it’s second shift well…he still does his best but he’ll be quiet and hurry off home when he can. If he does get caught by someone though..they’re concerned. And Waterboy feels ashamed he lets people get to him like this. He just..hates being told his powers are useless, or he’s useless or what that customer said, “a waste of space”.

So….

He just…holds himself together until he can bury his face in his pillow
