Choose your company WISELY……
Choose your company wisely because they reflect your state of imaan.
DIt makes me so sad when seeing someone who really wants to change but they get sucked in by their friends. I’ve known girls who struggle because their friends have said to them, ‘Don’t wear hijab!’ ‘Abaya is so extra!’ ‘It’s okay to go out with him,…you’re going to marry him anyway.’ And if a girl uploads a picture of her and her boyfriends, her friends rush to comment on how good they look together. SubhanAllah these are the same friends who will say to Allah- ‘So and so made me do this! Take them into the hellfire instead of me!’ Allah Almighty says in the Noble Quran, “Friends on that Day will be enemies one to another, except al-Muttaqun (i.e. those who have #Taqwa/Piety).” (43:67) Now if you say you’re not easily influenced but you’re in the company of people you yourself cannot influence then set around yourself boundaries. Let them know you don’t want them to talk about boys and haraam and swear in front of you. If you cannot influence them then make them respect you! You may be afraid to get away from misled friends fearing that you will be alone but Allah will replace them with people that can increase your imaan and who actually care about your akhirah. People you won’t have to impress by saying you know this many guys or been to this many shisha cafes or bought a new dress and from so and so brand. Because believe me back in secondary/college the popular girls were always the well known girls who knew the most boys. Get out of that immature mentality and remember that stuff is stupid and not impressive, don’t be afraid to break the cliche- all this boy business means nothing when you’re in mid 20 living with regret. Your friends should be there telling you to lower your voice when a brother is going past or helping you delete the songs on your phone. and to encourage you to wear hijab even if they don’t. Encourage you do do good if they really care Encouraging one another to dress modestly and in seeking deeny knowledge. May Allah grant us righteous friends but most importantly may He make us a righteous friend to others so that we can benefit on a day where no help is found except amongst the muttaqoon. Aameen !
