third time’s the charm (not!)

it starts like all other times: loss of control.
stevie’s thankfully wearing extra clothing this time, a little bit more padded up than all the other times before. at least it’s late enough in the evening this streets not covered with cars or people. the road’s clear enough that stevie’s been able to brush past them quickly and efficiently; excusing this time, of course. there has been a crack in the cement, enough to disrupt one set of the wheels and slightly off set him a bit-- but he does manage to catch himself at the last second. score!
he speeds up, and maybe-- this is where it all goes downhill (literally). he gets cocky, and when stevie gets cocky, he gets stupid. so he speeds up, when his nerves are still a little shaky from the near fall from earlier, and forgets there’s a dip in the street that goes and goes, and with it, so does stevie-- his speed increasing with the fall of gravity. oh no.
from one bad situation to another. but lady luck gives him a sliver-- a sliver of a luck. around the corner he goes, and he doesn’t topple over. a breathless laugh leaves him as he continues, wobbling but upright on his board. but a sliver is all he gets, because he misses the person stepping out from the small street he goes to cross, and knocks right into them. the hit to the ground doesn’t hurt as bad through his layers of clothing, but he has to blink through a round of dizziness at being knocked off his board so quickly. one day i won’t bust my ass. one day.
“i’m so sorry, dude.” he croaks out, a mix of korean and english as he gathers his breath. “didn’t-- see you. ouch. like you came out of nowhere.” he couldn’t have predicted anyone being there, but he could have slowed down. “shit, you okay?”
