Your stomach is talking through your brain
Hahahha I mean, that’s USUALLY how stomachs talk (since the whole “audibly rumbling stomach” thing doesn’t work how it’s described in fics - it doesn’t actually correlate to hunger, it is just digestion). I mean, we’re not bodies, after all, we’re brains inside skulls piloting meat-jaegers hehehe. But my stomach has developed a very distinct maudlin voice of late and it’s kinda freaky. Mind of its own XD.

Just a chemical imbalance, eat something, set an alarm, keep an apple in your bag? I get very distressed like crying if I leave it too long
Yeah no I’m not like chronically forgetting to eat I just do it occasionally like anyone who doesn’t like living on a regimented schedule. Most people get cranky or stressed or otherwise emotional when hungry but I was just commenting on the fact that it’s a change from my normal patterns that I have started getting very specifically SAD, which is rare for me - even when my depression is at its worst it’s not common for me to feel the specific emotion of intense sadness.

Isn’t serotonin produced in the guts? I can get really emotional and sad as well if I’m hungry. I can not notice hunger itself but realize I am after I notice how cranky and anxious I become.
Ok wow so... it has been a decade since my abnormal and neurochem and neuropsych courses so that’s actually some research I wasn’t aware of. That’s so COOL! Honestly a decade ago the discussion was along the line of “Well, we don’t really know how they work, but we know dopamine and serotonin are super important”. That might also explain what’s going on with me because I’ve had some significant illnesses this year that have fucked up my immune system and my gut bacteria and I’m only recently getting back on some probiotics to help with all that. I mean, I’ve been feeling a little better emotionally overall too since I started taking them so hmm... that would make sense if my gut serotonin levels are shifting right now that I might experience things a little differently. Thanks for telling me that, I’m surprised I hadn’t heard about it haha! I have some research papers to go read now hmm. Nifty.
