Okay, fine, you've convinced me I should give 911 a try once I graduate. What season should I stop in if I want to live in Bucktommy land forever?
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa yessss but also noooooooo but yesssssss join ussssss
Do not take this show too seriously it's not meant for it, and it's got its fair share of copaganda and amurican military worship - it's definitely fun though, sometimes mostly in the way where you end up having conversations like this with your bestie:
And you get to watch Angela Basset kick ass and wring your emotions into pulp sometimes.
They'll all wring your emotions to a pulp. The writing can be incoherent (moreso over time) and the acting occasionally clumsy, but it's sure got its moments. I mean I cry easy but I've cried sincerely over very nearly all of the characters at one point or another.
Buck is a perfect example of an "He was always openly bi, he just didn't know it" character but FYI he doesn't meet Tommy till S7 (although Tommy is a character in S2, and technically retconned into S1 actually).
If you want to finish a season with them together, it's also S7, unfortunately.
If you want to keep going and end on the final true high note of Bucktommy forever, stop at 8.05 Masks.
The breakup comes right after that and is so clumsy and it sucks, but the problem is despite the terrible and confusing writing, some of the acting and post breakup stuff is so juicy - and honestly the entire show's arc through to the end of S8 is kind of fundamental in some ways (even though, again, the writing is SO stupid in so many cases) so I'm not sure I could actually recommend stopping in the middle of S8. IDK.
For me, especially in Bucktommy terms, canon either stops somewhere nebulously after the end of S7 but before the breakup, or at the end of S8, depending on my mood. There's a lot of space ripe for reconciliation at the end of S8 that the fandom has done a lot with, but sometimes also I just like to live where they never broke up.
S9 sucks tho. It sucks so much. Like what are they even doing anymore? Nobody knows.
But this fandom is great. There's so much meat left on the bone of Buck and Tommy's relationship, regardless of what the show did or does in the future, and the glorious bits of canon can never be taken away from us now. They're interesting complex characters full of potential that fit together in fascinating ways with delightful chemistry - and most importantly for fandom spaces, we have a lot of fun here in Bucktommy land. Would love to have you here <3
