Changeling Adrien AU
A fantasy AU where…
Adrien is a chaneling with sickly green skin, dark green hair, claw-like nails, fangs, dark eyes with glowing yellow pupils, and of course, insect wings.
He was born to fairy parents, but they were repulsed by how ugly he was (by their standards), so they gave him to a beldam, who sought to use him to cause suffering.
Gabriel and Emilie, who are wealthy nobility, go to this beldam, desperate for a child they can’t have. She gives them Adrien, and casts a spell so he could look human 24/7 and be the perfect, beautiful child they want on the condition that “the mother and son’s life will be as one.”
Adrien grows to be a charming, hamdsome young man, but because of the spell, this comes at the cost of his mother’s health. She is frequently ill and bedridden, finding comfort only in her son’s love.
Growing up, Adrien made plenty of human friends, including Chloe, princess of the realm, Nino, a merchant’s son, Alya, a cook’s daughter, Luka, an aspiring young bard, Kagami, a noblewoman’s daughter from a far away land, Sabrina, a local bailiff’s daughter, and Marinette, the baker’s daughter. Gabriel usually only allows him to associate with royalty and nobility, but he still interacts with Marinette and company because they’re more pleasant to be around.
One day, Adrien discovers the truth, and absolutely can’t stand it. He loves his mother too much. So one day, he gives up the magic that helps him maintain his human form to heal her. About 24 hours later, he can no longer maintain the disguise, and in the middle of a huge celebration, he falters, and reveals his hideous true form.
Nearly everyone, including his own father, rejects him, calling him a monster or abomination. The only ones who don’t are his mother, Alya, Luka, Nino, Kagami, and of course, Marinette. They rush to his aid and help him flee.
Chloe and Sabrina are conflicted. Adrien is their lifelong friend, but he’s also a changeling. Now they must decide; do they accept him or reject him?
For defending a changeling, Emilie, Marinette and company become outcasts. But they do not care. They will defend Adrien to the end.
Throughout all of this, Adrien and Marinette develop feelings for each other, and even after learning the truth, Marinette finds herself falling in love with Adrien, and Adrien with her. They soon fall in love and decided to be together.
Adrien can no longer maintain his human disguise. He can turn into creatures, but becoming human is now so strenuous that it’s almost impossible.
The group become vagabonds in search of a a new home that will accept them and their changeling friend.
The beldam, realizing her spell has been beoken and her fun has been spoiled, is furious. She now dedicates her time to making their journey as difficult and dangerous as possible.
