Davrin: How does someone become a Veil Jumper?

Bellara: Simple: you survive Arlathan Forest.

Davrin: That’s it?

Bellara: The energies in Arlathan are…wrong. Like reality got scrambled. It’s dangerous. Not everyone can stand it.

Davrin: So if you can, then you’ve got what it takes. Sounds a lot like Grey Wardens.

Bellara: Except for the Archdemons. And griffons! Wish we had a few of those.

Davrin: What do Veil Jumpers usually eat?

Bellara: Whatever Arlathan Forest provides, pretty much.

Davrin: So a lot of grilled halla, then?

Bellara: Bite your tongue.

Davrin: I’m kidding.

Bellara: It’s mostly plants. Lots and lots of plants. With the occasional salad on the side.

Davrin: I heard about this “Nadas Dirthalen” spirit you found.

Bellara: I sure didn’t expect that.

Davrin: Be careful. The things that pop out of nowhere usually bite you in the ass.

Bellara: Like Assan?

Davrin: (Laughs) And that beak of his hurts.

Davrin: Bellara, how is it you’re the first Veil Jumper I’ve ever met?

Bellara: Well, we’re new! Just started up recently. You know, when Arlathan Forest started going all weird.

Davrin: When was that?

Bellara: Little bit before Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain showed up.

Davrin: That can’t be a coincidence.

Bellara: Lines up nicely, doesn’t it? Well, not nicely. But it lines up.

Davrin: I hear you’re the one who got that fancy eluvian up and running?

Bellara: I did! Well, most of the way. Everyone helped out.

Davrin: So tell me: How safe is it? Any reason to be worried?

Bellara: Oh! You shouldn’t worry at all.

Davrin: So it’s safe, then?

Bellara: No, just, worrying won’t help! Whatever happens would be instantaneous!

Davrin: Uh-huh. That’s reassuring.

Davrin: What do you think was going on at D’Meta’s Crossing? With the gods?

Bellara: It felt like they were trying to…flex their muscles? Like they were testing out what they could do.

Bellara: Like the people there were just playthings. Morrigan called it a “show of force”.

Davrin: I don’t know her, but I’m inclined to agree.
