“ A lord must also learn that words are wind — ” Tauriel waved her hand dismissively and reclined into her chair. Truly, she could not blame the High King for his efforts of wishing for a more peaceful means to end the bloodshed, but reasoning with Morgoth was folly and she was certain he understood this. “ Tell me, when was the last time words slew a thrall of the enemy? Or perhaps should I ask, when was the last time a Fëanorian heeded your words? ”
Fingolfin hummed a quiet laugh, tapping a finger on his wine glass. She was quick with her words, he’d give her that. And while what she said was, however unfortunately, true, she was missing a rather important piece. “Balance, Tauriel,” the High King started, his free hand gesturing idly as he spoke, “No, words would never aid our fight against Morgoth and his thralls. Nor are they of any consistent help with the sons of Fëanor, though some are more reasonable than others. And yet, they are my kin, and I would like to believe one day they might begin to pause and listen to others would seek to help them.” He paused, a hint of a smile coming to his face. “The wishes of an old lord, I suppose. Balance is what separates good rulers - good people, good warriors and princes - from those of Fëanor’s temperament, of which you have likely heard much. There is a time for words, and a time for blades, and my half-brother struggled with that. I can only hope to lead better than he, and to do right by those who follow me. Is that not the aim of rule?”

‘ Forget the faces of the creatures you have slain and never give them the power to enter your mind during the most restless of nights, for they will do you naught but harm. Lay down your burdens before your blade and let the sword speak for you. ’
The more enemies she slew, the less she thought until the stain of black blood upon her blade seemed no more significant than dirt staining steel and the droplets of blood like the first droplets of rain in spring.
Still, there were unspoken fears in her mind that haunted her; how many more would she have to slay before she mistakes one of her own for the enemy? Until one of her own fell by her blade? This, she did not ponder often, but when her mind slipped into such dark thoughts rarely did she ever allow them to influence her duties.
By her words, he guessed that she knew what he went through. At some point in her long life, she would have had been through the same. For her honesty he was grateful, and for her bluntness ---- for her not trying to make light of what troubled him, or reprimand him for admitting that which a prince should not admit. Legolas had not meant to confess any of that which she saw inside him, but she had understood.
"I try", he said, "to forget them. I will try harder, if that is what it takes. No one ---- told me they would haunt me the way they do. But if that is how it must be, then I have to learn to live with it.”

The night had a special ability. Of course, it was special in many ways, but one of her characteristics in particular was very important to the young elf, hiding in the foliage near the outer walls of the gardens. You see, the night had the ability to magnify noises. A cricket, barely heard during the day, could now raised his voice and fill the night sky, and footsteps of the light-footed elves became as loud as a dwarf's now.
And yet, even in this silent night that had fallen over Eryn Lasgalen, no footsteps could be heard anymore. This could mean two things. One, the guards that were patrolling the palace, were so far away that even the night could not carry their noises to the listening ears. Two, the guards were nearby, but had stopped walking.
Slowly, carefully, young Legolas stuck his head out of the foliage, peering into the night, before jumping out of the tree and upon the wall completely. He saw no one. That was his sign. Swiftly, he let himself fall off the high wall and fled into one of the wild trees.
The rest was easy. Sneaking as quick and silent as a squirrel over the branches, the young elf conquered the forest as he did every night, longing for the freedom and peace of the woods that he could not find in the palace. Little did he know that this night, his little escape would not go unnoticed.

Quick shoutout to belegurien for being an ABSOLUTE ANGEL. Not only is she a blessing to the rp community, but from what I've seen, she's also a blessing in real life and is equally as sweet. I have no idea what we'll do without her and all the best wishes for her <3
