i've made both with criscross binding and waxed green thread :)

A little backstory:

I've started making sketchbooks with some old sketch paper I found and the backings of paper blocks for their hard covers. I've tried to learn a few stitching methods and I fell in love with coptic stitching and criscross binding.

I've now started to sell them in fairs that happen in my uni and it's been fun

for a life update: i've got a lovely girlfriend and a kitty now

Two sketchbooks for two friendos!

The first one is just casebound like the rest of my books because it's all I knew how to do at that point, but I did play around a little with that round window in the cover as a display for the bat stamp :3 The second I made larger because the friendo in question tends to work larger, and I decided to try Belgian secret binding because it seemed like a nice flat-laying method that would work well for a sketchbook. Really pleased with how it came out!

the pattern across the spine doesn’t quite match but I think the illusion of it is still nice!! I’m happy anyways haha. thread is linen bookbinding thread, my face for scale lol

Belgian Secret Binding

Having read a number of tutorials, today I went and learned to do the style of bookbinding called the Belgian Secret Binding. I quite like it. One of the problems with Coptic stitch is the exposed spine, which this design of bookbinding solves quite nicely.
