Believer and Gasoline Q&A Episode 3 edition!
Why does Shadow have long hair in her flashback?
Andrea didn’t cut Shadow’s hair right away because he couldn’t care less. THEYRE lesser demons, their lives already belong to him just for being animal breeds, cutting hair is usually more for higher ranking demons, since they’re actually going to be shown around to others that they got defeated. When Shadow found herself worthy to be by Andrea’s side rather than just silly mid tier bounty hunter traffic, he got to claim her life, but it was never hers to begin with.
Clips from episode 1 and episode 2.
What’s the deal with Andrea having long hair in episode one?
Alessandro is an unreliable narrator with a messed perception when retelling events, sometimes we don’t get the whole picture, sometimes he lets things out(like his sister not being there when clearly they were both on the streets together, the doctor didn’t have to know that), and that includes forgetting things. He just assumed Andrea had long hair since he’s a powerful man who owns a lot of people, he thinks he has long hair subconsciously but it’s tied and he can’t see it. However Etsuko, who has way less respect for higher power (and doesn’t understand it, Alessandro didn’t even tell her before he didn’t enjoy being owned, or the whole hair cut symbolism), sees him for whole, having short hair. I’d say pay attention during flashbacks or recalls that seem to contradict one another. Just as how Andrea’s eyes were grey during episode 2’s finale, and we see that his eyes turn grey when he controls people. I’ll definitely keep doing more of that!
What’s the deal with the red hair strands? Why does Alessandro sometimes have one and sometimes doesn’t?
Alessandro is a natural brunette, he was born with brown hair and only started dying his hair as 13 but it wasn’t hair dye. Demon customs that soldiers would put blood in their hair from their victims, it’s pretty washable. Once he met Etsuko and left hell, he stopped. Then once Etsuko turned seventeen, he dyed his hair red because demon hatred was particularly strong and he felt like honouring some heritage of what good came out of hell as a ‘fuck you, look at my horns and my tail and my bloody hair’ to the active protests against demon’s rights on earth. Etsuko, who loves her brother, started also dying her hair red to copy him, so now they’re matching. Alessandro’s protest calmed down in 1968, when demons were being persecuted on the daily basis, but now the red hair is a more of a thing for him and his sister, rather than anything related to demons for him. He never really liked hell, despite it being the place where he grew up, but he didn’t hate being a demon. His only real home is with Etsuko. Now for Shadow she isn’t a solider so she’s not dying her hair, and doesn’t have the means to access cosmetics. I think she just has red hair genes from distant parents, and she styled it over her carved out eye because that’s where she’s ever bled the most. She can get symbolic and poetic from time to time. It’s mostly for her, so many people loose limbs in the mafia it’s hardly noticeable and people won’t ask about it, I could draw her scar one day, its pretty cool.
What are your favorite scenes of episode 3?
So many of them were hell to edit for my patience I’m glad it’s over. My all times favorite has to be when Andrea looses his shit at Alessandro and we see this demonic blurry version that gets cut when he snaps the knife out of his hand. I love villains and especially body horror, it’s going to get a lot worse in the books. I think the scene where Etsuko cries with Alessandro is really cute and sad, my favorite lines are ‘I know I’m not the best brother…’ and ‘before being the hybrid, you were my Etsuko’. I like the shadow effect I got going on with the sound effects in the dog fight. I also really like the whole atmosphere of Alice’s house. It’s a nice break and change from the dark chasing scenes. I really liked introducing three whole new characters and sexual romance, I got really creative with it! And I’m about to get my fill of romance on episode 4. I think Yuko might be my third favorite character? If we count the two siblings up first.
Who’s the brown haired girl with the bunny suit?
Yuko! We see her in episode one but she’s more than a background character, we’ll see much more of her in episode 4 and she’s Alessandro’s love interest!
I love you all, thanks for all the support. I’ve also got ideas of a movie (Well, one where all the episodes are mashed into a giant file, but also another sequel/prequel movie that takes place after the ending. We’ll see how this goes.)
