(At the Emperor's Castle)
Luz: Why do I hear boss music?
Belos: That sound? It's just my Golden Guard playing his favorite tune.
Kikimora: (trying to not lose it) Don't you mean the ONLY tune he knows and plays on repeat at 3:00 AM, your highness?

Nothing to see here, just two heirs of powerful rulers of the Boiling Isles in the same picture.
ToH Theory: Fantastic diseases and how to deal with them
Curses, a very ancient concept. Malign spells that were casted by demons, witches and even holy people (take for example St. Patrick and the Wolfwalkers). Of all the takes they could go when featuring them, one of them is treating the curse as if it was an illness, a terminal one in the majority of cases.
And this is the take The Owl House is using.
From season one, we could see the parallels with Eda and her elixirs, the high prices that requires to get them and how they are not working anymore, as the curse get stronger. And this can be confirmed by Eda's statement:
"No one likes having a curse, but if you take the right steps, it's manageable"
But we are not only seeing the effects and hardships that the curse takes on Eda, but we are also seeing the reactions of the people close to her: Luz and King.
For King, it is a surprise that Eda didn't tell him about her predicament as they were living in the same house and the saying "us weirdos stick together" implies that is in good and bad times, including if one gets sick or weak. So Eda's secret would break that saying, even if she did it to protect him.
As for Luz, the poor latina is the more affected by this because she sees the Owl Lady as more than a mentor and teacher. She's her second mother, one that gets her quirks and appreciation for her hobbies. Camila is good mother and unique in her own way but Eda is also special, and to see someone you deeply care about being sick and getting worse each day is very painful for her.
Things get worse when Eda loses her magic when trying to save Luz from her own sister, becoming an owl beast and loses her identity as the curse takes over. Not only that but it gets worse when the human girl has not other option but to blow up the portal (Eda's only way to have a job no one in the Boiling Isles has and the one she's her own boss) to save her world.
This actually gets focus in "Separate Tides" as we see how Luz considers herself a burden because she's the reason the Owl Lady lost her magic, one of the things she was very proud of and now she doesn't have a job and most likely isn't getting one in the future as her curse still prevails, the same can be said about Lilith.
And because she wants to stop "being a burden" as she puts it, Luz get involved in jobs that could get herself killed, only caring that Eda will get a better future, even if she's not in it.
When she opens up to Eda in the cave, the witch tells her that she doesn't need to do that, that punishing herself with dangerous jobs isn't going to make the situation better.
To Eda, having Luz the human in her life makes her existence better. And Luz almost cries, needing to hear that from her maternal figure.
Speaking of teenagers with parental figures, in the same episode we have the introduction of one character that, as talked in other posts, is going to be the human girl's counterpart. One that is very skilled at magic and is on the Emperor's side... literaly speaking.
The Golden Guard
Everyone out there are calling the Golden Guard "Belos Jr, Mini Belos, Small Belos or Tiny Belos"
Well, I'm gonna start calling him "Belito" and no one can stop me.
TOH fandom: Uncle? Emperor Belos is Hunter's uncle!
Others in the TOH fandom: He ain't his real uncle. He only took him in!
Me: Uncle, not uncle... these two still have a really complicated father/son relationship and no one can change my mind on that!
Golden Guard: Is there any chance I could come to the Human world with you guys?
Belos: Absolutely not, I forbid it. Not gonna happen. Sorry boy, but the Human Realm is no place for young vulnerable bratty witches. You know the kind of FREAKS up there who'd drool all over you!
"Beijos na testa" ...sempre foi e sempre serás o meu porto seguro 💚meu pedacinho do céu... sempre vai ter um pedacinho de ti em mim. Sonay 🐱
