March 8 ... remembering Royal Navy Cmdr Peter Longhurst In 1984 the British Ministry of Defence selected 5 British officers who started astronaut training to fly onboard space shuttle missions in order to assist in the deployment of the military Skynet 4 satellites destined for use by NATO countries. Royal Navy Commander Peter Hervey Longhurst (1943-2010) was assigned to a space shuttle mission but the 1986 Challenger disaster cancelled all planned 1987 flights. In this photo Royal Navy Cmdr Peter Longhurst posed next to a shuttle orbiter mockup trainer and it looks like he wore a Seiko Bell-Matic 4006-6031 diver wristwatch. (Photo: NASA)
