Scott Carpenter and Gemini XI September 12, 1966 NASA astronaut Scott Carpenter monitored the booster systems console of the mission control center at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston Texas. Scott Carpenter already obtained NASA-permission to take a leave of absence to join the U.S. Navy SeaLab underwater habitat research project. It looks like aquanaut Carpenter wore his Rolex Submariner diving watch which had a circular underwater thermometer on the bracelet. Carpenter retired from NASA in 1967, and from the US Navy in 1969.
