Money Heist: Character Analysis
an attempt to understand and analysis the show's characters
Tokyo: is the first character that you start to like, the plot gives her story first, so till the end she grown in us very strong, also she acts as an unreliable narrator. Tokyo lost everything until is scouted by Professor, we empathize with her and feel her pain. She is young and stubborn, her emotional and aggressive side almost ruined the whole plan.
The Professor: is the mastermind of the heist who assembled the group. Define the Irene Adler's phrase “Smart is the new sexy”. Mysteriously, we don't know a lot about him until the second season. He can handle any mess, come with a new plan in a few seconds. The way he thinks is beyond our mind, he is a brilliant man.
Berlin: The Professor's second-in-command, a terminally ill jewel thief. Is a pureblood psychopath, narcissistic man with a drop of sexism, but have a calm and cold nature? I found his love plot line with the hostage unnecessary. I got shocked when he drops the Tokyo right to the police. Had a kind of heroic death, alone versus the police, his murder scene gives me chills.
Moscow: a former miner turned criminal and Denver's father. He is the father figure of this team. Caring and funny, always had a joke, had very tragic death in my opinion. At the end, we found out that he left his wife with drug dealers, but had searched for her after that. We sympathize with him, because he always tried to protect his son.
Nairobi: an expert in counterfeiting and forgery, have the strongest motivation, to turn back her son. She is funny, smart and kind, always nice with the hostages, even one of them called her the best boss they ever had. Always follow the Professor's plan and him in general. I find her and Berlin reverse characters, but both share the calm temper and trust in the Professor.
Rio: a young hacker, the vulnerable spot of the team. Kind and gentle, along the way he regretted for taking part in the heist. Get disowned by his parents and family. Has a big love plotline with Tokyo, that violated the main rule 'no relationships'. We emphasize with him, because he is an interesting, naive character with flaws, which we find in ourselves.
Denver: Moscow's son, joins in the attempt of making money. Epitome of the boy next door, not the brightest men, but have morals. I enjoy his love line with Monica, from the start till the end. Crucial moment for him was his dad's death, that was his best friend and mentor. I think he will be a very good father.
Oslo and Helsinki: two cousins, friends and Serbian veterans. During the heist they were inseparable. We empathize with them because they represent big, scary people, but with good heart. The crucial moment for this duo is when Oslo gets hurt by hostages in an attempt to run away. Helsinki takes the burden to kill the Oslo, so he will no longer suffer.
