Belle: I can't believe you assassinated the King!
Rumple: Well, 'assassinated' implies it was politically motivated. I killed him because he was a dick, so technically I murdered him
Belle: That's not better!

Me before I started watching Once Upon A Time: why the hell is Rumplestiltskin and Belle such a common ship?? Is it crack these people are smoking?
Me after I started watching OUAT: everyone SHUT UP my favorite middle aged man is kissing his beautiful soulmate :3

Rumbelle text posts pt. 24/?
the thing that destroys me about Rumbelle is that Belle says she loves Rumple for the good she sees in him, for his potential to be better than he currently believes he is. and while on the surface that belief is encouraging and loving (and it does work to break down that wall he keeps between himself and the world), it also implies to him that Belle’s love is conditional on him always being that good man and not that she loves the man he is: his anger, insecurity, dark humor, manipulation, violence, and reliance on magic just as much as his curiosity, kindness, brilliance, tenderness, devotion, and romance. that there’s no room for nuance or compromise.
which means that even when he loves her back, he doesn’t trust that she’ll ever accept the whole of him, so he hides pieces of himself (the petty, the vengeful, the scared, the lost) because deep down he’s terrified that one wrong move, one wrong part of himself revealed, will remove her love for him. and just as in the prophecy that kicked off his journey, this too becomes self-fulfilling and he breaks Belle’s heart and trust and furthers his belief that he’s not worthy of love at all.
Shall we dance?
It will always make me mad that Once Upon A Time decided to have a sapphic couple including Red but instead of going for her ending up with Belle or Mulan they went with Dorothy. Red and Belle were good friends, had chemistry and they would've been a fun take on Beauty and the Beast, but I get that they were already doing that with Rumple I guess. Red and Mulan though? Mulan was an already established sapphic character that canonically travelled with Red for a while so they had a bond, chemistry as well and their first meeting was with Red being literally on top of her while Mulan had heart eyes so I really thought they were going there. But nope. They went for Dorothy which was like. Forced as fuck. Thank god Alice and Robin II came later but fuck if they didn't waste Red and Mulan's potential.
#rumbelle but actually GoldenLace because Lacey and Gold were an underrated evil power couple (also really just my excuse for more femdom Rumbelle)
