We ❤️ Positano

Images of colorful villages perched on sea cliffs and where the mountains meet the Mediterranean Sea, that’s what we've been dreaming about to visit someday. Well, that someday has finally arrived! 

We spent a memorable weekend in Positano and Amalfi. After joining the Tour of Pompeii, we took a private car to Amalfi which our hotel in Amalfi booked for us. There are several ways though to get to the Amalfi Coast from anywhere in Italy depending on your level of comfort, time and budget. We chose to travel by a private car to get to our destination faster and to enjoy the breathtaking views of the coast without any obstructions. We set it out to travel by land going to Amalfi and by sea to Positano. That way we could experience the breathtaking views of the Amalfi coastline both by land and sea. My wife and I have read several descriptions of the many hairpin turns and narrow roads hugging the cliff along the Amalfi Coast. But we prepared ourselves to this roller coaster ride. Our driver was amazing and so skillful navigating those narrow roads. It was understandable why many locals don’t recommend doing a self-drive here especially during the busy season.

After staying overnight in Amalfi, we sailed to Positano via ferry before noon. It was a short 20 minutes ride. Seeing Positano from a distance, I remembered feeling an overwhelming sensation that I had finally found my place. I couldn’t believe that after seeing so many beautiful photos of it over the years, what I was seeing was real. No photos, no matter how good, can do this place justice. It is truly something you have to see for yourself. Positano is best viewed from the sea. If you can, take a boat out and try to take in the whole of Positano in all its glory from the waters. The dramatic landscape is sublime.

Positano is one of the most beautiful and visited places in Italy. If you want to escape the modern world and enjoy a magical moment, sail away to this paradise. A vertical town where instead of roads, visitors explore along steep flights of steps. Wear a pair of comfortable walking shoes. If you love color and shopping, one can spend days here exploring Positano’s shops. There are many stores selling ceramics, colorful clothing and leather sandals where they can customize for you for about 15 minutes wait. We stopped at a few of the colorful stores and admired the coastal views which helped make the walk go a little faster and forget the climb.

A boat ride is a photographer’s dream and one of the best ways to see a good variety of what the Amalfi coast has to offer.

There are so many more charming villages along the Amalfi Coast. If you have a limited time, then Positano and Amalfi should be at the top of your list. There are so many reasons why these are the two most popular and visited towns. You can simply get lost and just wander the charming streets and you never know what hidden gems you’ll find.
