Take Action Today to Stop Mandated Section 8 As you have no doubt read in the press, the California Senate is considering legislation (SB 329) that would force owners of rental property to participate in Section 8 by re-defining source of income to include “federal, state, or local public assistance, and federal, state, or local housing subsidies, including, but not limited to, federal housing assistance vouchers issued under Section 8 of the United States Housing Act of 1937 (42 U.S.C. Sec. 1437f).” This would mean that a property owner could no longer make the business decision to not participate in Section 8 or similar voucher programs under the threat of being in violation of fair housing laws.
