Small blurb | nh13 x reader

Warnings: none, no use of reader pronouns so go buckwild children.

Summary: reader being awake at 2 am after an off day for the devils. Just kind of basking in the domesticity of living with their boyfriend.

There was a sort of serenity to the late nights in New Jersey. For a city so active during the day, it always seemed to quiet down when it was late.

You weren’t usually awake at this hour. Normally you’d be sound asleep curled up in Nico’s arms. It wasn’t for lack of trying, no, you’d been trying to fall asleep for the past few hours. Sleep just wouldn’t take you. So there you laid, head pressed to Nico’s chest.

Because of his busy work schedule, Nico almost always found you asleep by the time he returned home. You always tried to stay awake, but without fail, you’d always end up asleep before he’d make it though the door.

For once he was asleep while you laid awake. You weren’t restless, however. It was sort of peaceful laying there on his chest, wrapped in his arms.

The ebb and flow of his breaths kept you calm. You could hear his heartbeat in his chest, the slow thumping lulling you into an almost trance. You could feel the steady rise and fall of his chest and that alone felt so… right.

You’d been living together for only a few months by this point. You were still getting into a routine with your sleep and his. But this moment alone, this moment was so domestic.

You turned your head to peer up at Nico, taking in the way he looked fast asleep. You almost felt weird for staring, but he looked so peaceful. He laid there, lips slightly parted, one arm wrapped around you while the other laid strung over his head.

You lie there, just staring, for only a few minutes before you could slowly feel sleep seeping in. You pressed a featherlight kiss to his chest before letting the sleep take over.

I know a few of my moots don’t like Rempe (I know alli is gonna spray bottle me) but I just need to yap about this.

Im tired of the rangers playing with rempe like a fucking yo-yo. Like you send him down to Hartford, we all cheer because that means this kid is gonna get TOI and is going to be able to improve. And then not even a weekend later you pull him back.

And for what? So he can get into another meaningless fight? You don’t need to sick him on people every game… like yeah it can be interesting but also like he will have some serious health issues from this. It could cause literal brain damage.

I know he is literally my age, but I’m still gonna say he’s just a kid. He’s too young to be your enforcer. He’s tall as shit and yeah that comes with an advantage, but it also puts him at a disadvantage with his actual hockey skill.

They need to stop sending him down and recalling him every other week. Not to mention telling him to “have fun” in Hartford, which sounds like them putting down the AHL’s importance. Like yeah cool it isn’t the NHL, it’s not the massive big leagues, but A LOT of those really good players got their start in the AHL. A lot of peoples Fav’s got their start and got the ball rolling with the AHL. It’s not some silly league that they can just basically shit on whenever they want…

Let him stay in Hartford for AT LEAST a month, let him get more TOI, let him get his shooting up, let him get his skating up. Let him improve as a player. Stop playing fucking cat and mouse with his career.
