Chapter One
Dexter Solomon has just finished packing up all his things in his three suitcases, as well as his carry-on bag. He doubled check to make sure that everything was in order, then he used his phone to text his best friend, Troy that he's on his way, having already contacted an Uber 10 minutes ago to get to the airport.
Troy.... How to describe the guy. I mean, he's tall, reserved, and just keeps to himself. We met in college when I was 18 as roommates, him wanting to be a doctor. I definitely remember that it was a heavy workload for him, but he never seemed tired and somehow manages to get things done... weird. I, on the other hand, am the complete opposite. I'm more of the outgoing sort, slightly shorter than Troy - maybe like an inch, always the party type.
I'm very surprised we became friends after all this time. As a matter of fact, some of my personal friendships with other people tapered off as time went on, but he was there for me when I needed him the most. It makes me wonder what he sees in me, but I'm not complaining.
He invited me to go on this world trip, all expenses paid. I was under the impression that the guy was loaded, but how loaded was a surprise to me. I felt bad that he was paying for everything, but he waved it off, saying that I didn't owe him anything. Still... makes me feel weird just letting him pay for everything.
My phone makes a notification sound, signaling that his Uber is here, bringing me out of my thoughts. It takes about 15 minutes from my condo to get to the airport, a lovely late Monday morning for some travel. I immediately see my best friend, Troy with his luggage as they locked eyes through the window, and I give him a smile as the car parks right next to him. It unnerved me that Troy would look at him with those piercing light brown eyes, but that's just who he is, always observant. I get out of the car, immediately getting a hug from him, catching me by surprise. My eyes widen, still smiling, "Whoa, man. You're acting like you're about to say goodbye to me or something." I chuckle at the end. The Uber driver gets out of the car to grab my luggage out of the backseat as well as the trunk, while I close the passenger door.
Troy looks at me a bit sheepishly, "Yeah, sorry about that. I'm just... so excited for this trip, especially around the world. I have so many places to show you, great cultures, and especially the great food. It's all going to be great for the both of us. Our first stop is Madrid, Spain. I already booked our Airbnb - you're going to love it, by the way."
I raise my eyebrow in amusement as I turn around to grab my things from the driver, not even noticing the calculated gleam in Troy's eyes, perusing my body. Now that I got everything, I say to Troy, whose facial expression changed back to happy, "Well, I never been to Madrid, Spain, practically living in Florida all my life, so with you as my tour guide - that I trust, I know that we'll have a good time." I pat my best friend's shoulder, then I put my hands back to my luggages and carry-on, walking along with my friend inside the airport to get ourselves ready for our first class, nine hours flight.
(This is a preview. When I have the time to make Chapter 2, I will make it. Any feedback that you have, feel free to let me know.)
