I’ve done a number of things.
Your dream is really admirable. What made you decide to pursue forensic psych with kids in the first place, though? Not just wanting to help them but what got you on that path specifically?

my parents had professions based in health and police work. and I got interested in the psychology of crime at a very young age. I read the two books on mary bell by gitta sereny when I was very young.
lots of people called her a “seed of evil” or a “monster”. I thought that if an 11 year old child murdered two young children then there HAD to be something wrong with her. and I was right. she had a history of horrifying abuse and neglect from a young age.
after being convicted of manslaughter due to diminished responsibility after murdering two toddlers, mary bell was put into juvenile care and later prison. with the consistent care and discipline from dedicated adults and forming healthy relationships she was fully rehabilitated and is now a grandmother in this day and age with no further crimes to her name.
I figured that children who commit such crimes do so because they have never learned compassion, empathy or care towards others. they’re full of hatred and anger because of how they’ve been treated. with the exception of children who re born psychopathic.
mary bell to me is proof that deviant children can be saved, and that’s what got me so interested in forensic psychology.
