i decided to do another folk song drawing thing xD this one is ‘Griogal Cridhe’ a REALLY old song from like 1570, when Gregor MacGregor (also Griogair Ruadh Mac Griogair) was betrayed by the Campbells and executed in front of his wife, who was the daughter of the man who beheaded him. It’s said that the poor young widow wrote it herself, and some versions have like a lullaby bit meant to express that she’s singing to their child ;A; (O ba ba mo leanabh, ba mo leanabh ba, like that) Or at least it’s what granddad said anyway xD Beautiful song, very poignant ;A; heard several choral arrangements of it and those are my favourites but this one is lovely as well 💔
(Rough translation:
Great beloved, They spilt your blood yesterday And put your head on an oaken stake a short distance from your body.
as for why i chose the most graphically violent bit... er... ravens are carrion birds? 😅 (also pls do have a look at my other folk music inspired art, A Chatrion’ Òg if u have a moment 😊)
