This was not true.

So he waited. And when the guard was looking at his device, he moved in. With all his strength, he pushed himself towards the desk, slamming his hands onto it and pushing himself up.

He stared, just for a moment - he needed to be sure the man was real. If there was any sort of trick here, the guard would get away. He had the advantage of legs.
