This is a fail.

I’m helping a relative figure out how to work his hearing aid, and the manufacturer has joined the regrettable trend of needing an app to control a device. The main element in the app’s home screen is a low-contrast, medium-toned panel overlaid with thin-lined text and graphics. So what’s the problem? Well, you know who needs hearing aids? Old people, for one. And what happens when people get old? Their eyes go bad. My relative complained that the menus and controls in the app are unreadable to him. This just compounds the problem of forcing an app onto a demographic not exactly known for technological prowess. Did anyone at the company even think about who its customers are before trotting out this abomination? They can’t use your product because they don’t understand the app, and they don’t understand the app because they can’t read it. Jesus.
