Belobog-Belun, 2023 & 2014 - oil on canvas.
— Andrey Alekseyevich Shishkin (Russia, 1960).
The supposed West Slavic bozhich of good luck and happiness. In the beliefs of the Belarusians met the personification of good fortune, a being called Belun. He was represented as an old man with a white beard who showed the way to the lost and could give gifts to the reapers in exchange for a favor. There were proverbs: “it is dark in the forest without Belun” and “musya posyabriusya with Belun”. Probably is one and the same with Belogbog.
