Big thank you to @klenda-v for drawing and painting this piece for me! While initially discussing the commission, I used this illustration by N.C. Wyeth (links to Wikimedia) to convey what I had in mind. There was just something about the idea of some children having fun by water, only to see a giant walk blithely by them, that seemed very fantastical to me. I wondered, "What if the giant was Ultraman?" Klenda suggested featuring a just-defeated Bemular, which I loved.

So to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Ultraman, I'm going to try and sketch at least one kaiju every week to celebrate each episode of the original series

First up is Bemular!

One of few survivors of their species' genocide that took on a new name to hide amongst humanity, initially framed as sinister before more complexity is unveiled, involved in the birth of the protagonist and is the reason behind their abilities, formerly on good terms with the protagonist's father, can give blood that bestows powers that are passed down hereditarily, trying to restore their kind's legacy, is kidnapped as part of the true villain's plan, reptilian.

Noticing a lot of parallels between Rhea and "Bemular."
