Need a reason to live? Everyone does. I think we all have those days where without a reason, we might not make it through. I've lived through enough trials to realize that nothing is secure except for my faith in Jesus Christ. People let us down and we even let ourselves down, but Jesus never fails to love, to redeem, to lift, to save. What beautiful words...but Jesus... My life is a mess but Jesus...but Jesus never fails. It's easily said that I am willing to die for Christ, but I know that unless I live for Him, I would not have the strength to die for Him. Do you ever feel like you are too conservative for some people and not conservative enough for the rest? This is so us! As we grew in following Christ and people shared "truths" with us, our zeal to honor God had us obeying rules that God wasn't requiring of us, although we didn't know it at the time. I know God honored our eager hearts so nothing was wasted, but we abandoned the extremes and finally arrived at this: Don't let anyone require something of you that God does not require of you. I've also seen believers who are rejecting legalism head straight into liberalism. Only in God's Word with God's guidance can we find the truth that sets us free. "His Spirit of Truth will guide us into all truth." John 16:13. "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." John 8:36. There is so much freedom in avoiding the extremes. It's easy to confuse conviction as condemnation. God's Word puts "grace and truth" together (John 1:14-17, Colossians 1:6, 2 John 1:3) and admonishes "speaking the truth in love" (Ephesians 4:15), so obviously truth that is absent of grace and/or love is missing the mark. Conviction is that not so good feeling that prompts transforming sin into righteousness. It's a motivating, uplifting, life-changing step towards freedom. Condemnation is also a bad feeling, but it tears you down and leaves you feeling helplessly hopelessly chained to sin. Jesus brings conviction, while Satan brings condemnation.
