It's a huge win for Nebula when Lear finally takes off his visor/sunglasses. But it also literally falls on her all at once.
She's likely spending the night, unfortunately for him, because Hoopa wants the two to get together. (Nebula is oblivious to Hoopa's motive.) At some point she opens up about her dad and his passing. She talks about his Charizard and how she thought such a close bond with it was impossible because of her grief; Her Sygna Suit proves otherwise.
So Nebula lost a parent, too. Lear finally feels like they're close enough for him to share his story about his mom. And unfortunately, lead into everything about his dad, too.
This is like, months after they met by the way. Nebula knows nothing. She didn't really notice rumors nor overhear too much from Rachel and Sawyer.
She listens intently. Who wouldn't be in her position?
At the end, Lear is close to tears. He did just babble on about his life story to a girl Hoopa is definitely trying to set him up with. He's still trying to play tough guy. Nebula tries to comfort him, opening her arms for a hug. That's when he finally does it: He lifts his visor to reveal his tired purple eyes. Now that she knows, it's only fair she sees the entirety, too.
Nebula has to do a double take when she sees his eyes. Oh, shit! So that's what they look like! Poor guy, he looks so exhausted!
A pause. Her arms awkwardly remain open to him for a hug.
The outcome is clear. Lear takes her embrace. Fine. He can cave. This once. Just once. Nebula is good at secrets, she won't tell a soul.
Then they cuddle in the Hoopa spawned pillow fort that night–
