Well, it's been a suitably festive feeling start to December Nice and cold, lots of snow on the hills, and although the Lomonds got their first dusting recently, I'd still been eager to get out into the bigger hills for my first proper snowy walk of the season and....coming to think of it....my first proper snowy walk on bigger hills since pre-Covid!!
I managed that at the weekend, with a post-Arwen walk from Spittal of Glenshee....first through a splintered and decimated landscape on Dalmunzie estate, who have suffered a lot of damage from the storm....and then up Glen Lochsie, up Meall Ruigh Mor Thearlaich and on over Meall a' Choire Bhuidhe to the fine summit of Ben Earb.
Given the raging northerlies of the past week or so, all the snow was on southern aspects, leaving northern aspects with only a wind-scoured frosting. I'm certainly not complaining about the snow being on the hills, but hopefully we'll also get some storms more traditional wind directions over the winter, so that the usual favoured snowpatch spots get a decent dumping.
COLD, but a lovely day out :)
