I can’t find the tweets about it now I’m assuming they were taken down but someone who helps run Star Wars social media replied to tweets yesterday basically saying that people who talk about wanting Ben back or use #bensololives or voice our issues with TROS are being negative and DLF refuse to engage with us. She also said something along the lines of if we aren’t being (what they determine as) negative that we will be able to get BTS footage/etc of TROS. Frankly I think this is a whole load of bullshit.
Disney wants us to love these movies and characters to the point that we’ll fork over thousands upon thousands of dollars to them but they can’t possibly understand why someone would take it personally when a character they love is just killed off without so much as one minute of screen time of anyone mourning him or even acknowledging the loss. Also critiquing a movie and talking about what worked and didn’t isn’t necessarily negative. Many things in TROS didn’t work and the only way DLF is going to make better SW movies going forward is to acknowledge that.
I don’t think anyone should stop talking about Ben or Reylo even where DLF is concerned. This whole idea that responding with #Bensololives or similar stuff is negative is just a way to silence anyone that wasn't 100% happy with TROS.
Many people have been very vocal about how they weren't happy that Ben was killed off and I'm guessing Disney didn't expect that. I also think they figured that if they put the most fanbro pandering film of all time that would silence the majority of the hate they got from TLJ but it's been quite the opposite.Now they have people upset from all sides and I think they don't really know what to do with that besides being like if you talk about the thing we'll just ignore you.
I mean they're even recalling those art books and I would bet money that the ones we get in the US will have some pics removed and others added like with Palpatine. It’s almost like they’re trying to change history so people will just accept their poorly made movie. Like it’s clear from TFA and TLJ that Ben was supposed to be redeemed and to live. Even if you take the other SW movies into consideration it would have made sense. If his story is to parallel Anakin (and that’s what the movies often told us) and Anakin had to die to be redeemed it would have make sense for Ben to live. But nope that was never the plan as far they are concerned now because they just had him die like it was nothing.
Same thing with the Palpatine stuff which was clearly shoe horned in at the last minute. I mean there’s even an interview with Ian McDiarmid talking about he only got a phone once they had started on TROS. If they had planned Palaptine from the beginning wouldn’t they have made sure he would be on board back when the trilogy started so they’d know which direction to go? Palaptine was never the plan which is part of why those art books are getting recalled because they have the original plan for the movie and it looked a hell of a lot better than what we got. DLF just doesn’t want to admit they slapped the Star Wars name on such a piece of trash so they keep trying to throw the evidence under the rug. Including trying to silence us fans.
I just think we shouldn't let them almost sort of blackmail our fandom by saying well if you're good and don't talk about that we'll give you a reward like bts stuff in return. Screw that let them keep whatever they’re hiding that probably should have made it in the movie to begin with. We should absolutely keep talking about Ben and remind them that he was one of the best characters of the whole trilogy and that them killing him off (especially the way they did it) was totally messed up. Don’t let them try and silence us be louder don’t send hate but do send the message that we aren’t going anywhere.
