Death:My character’s reaction to your character dying.
Tick, tick, tick. It was weird how that annoying ticking sound was the only thing keeping Callie somewhat sane or perhaps the fact that she believed it was keeping her sane proved just how insane she was going. Whatever the case she liked the ticking sound the clock made every time a minute would pass by. Three hundred and sixty nine ticks had passed by, she knew she had counted every single one of them, when the doctor came out. At that moment Callie had one single thought in her mind and that was a desire to turn back those three hundred and sixty nine ticks back.
“Mrs. Sutton” The faintest of smiles appeared on her lips at the name she was called, she was still getting used to the idea of being Mrs. Sutton not that anyone would blame her considering the wedding had occurred a week prior to that day. The brunette attempted to get on her feet but her legs felt like jelly and gave out on her before she was able to put all her weight on them. Taking a deep breath she attempted to get on her feet once more this time she succeeded but only because Bianca’s arm wrapped around her own almost carrying the thin brunette forcing her up.
All her friends had been there for her but foolishly Callie had sent them away to get some rest and Bianca was the only one that stayed behind insisting that she would get rest when one of the others returned. It took both Bianca and Callie to almost beg Aaron to go and get rest or at least take a nice warm shower to help him relax. At that moment Callie was almost cursing herself for having asked them to leave but at least she wasn’t all alone. “Ho- how is he?” Her voice trembled as it left her lips and the volume of her voice was just above a whisper but she was certain that the doctor knew what she wanted to know.
“I’m sorry Mrs. Sutton, we tried everything we could but…” the doctor kept talking but Callie blocked her out she felt Bianca’s arms wrap around her but she didn’t react to them she simply stood there staring at the doctor. “So it will take longer for him to get better?” her voice cracked as she spoke and the doctor looked at her at first completely confused but then her facial expression soften and it was that look of compassion what finally allowed reality to settle in for Callie. “I’m sorry” the doctor said once more placing her hand on Callie’s shoulder.
Tears slid down the girl’s face leaving complete despair in their wake. Three hundred and seventy four minutes that’s how long it took to shatter her world. Ben had been her rock, her strength, her one true love and now he was just gone. How was she supposed to face this without him? Ben had been there for her through every heartbreaking experience, he had given her the strength to carry onto rise from the ashes and to be stronger than ever before but she had only been able to do that because she had him on her side.
“Thank you” she said to the doctor as she removed her hand form her shoulder and escaped Bianca’s grip. “I need a minute” she said to the curly haired girl “but…” Bianca began “I need a minute” she replied her tone steady and calmed way to calm actually which really scared her. Forcing her legs to move she walked through the hallway trying to find somewhere where she could be alone. She finally came on to a narrow hallway, no one seemed to be around and it was good because she was no longer able to stay in control of the heart wrenching pain she was feeling.
Callie leaned against the cool wall her tears falling more freely now and soft sobs escaped her lips. “You promised, you promised to be here for me” she cried as she turned so that she was facing the wall. Her hand twisted in to a fist and she slammed it against the wall as hard as she possibly could. “What am I suppose to do without you? Huh? How do I go on without you?” It hadn’t just been Ben the one that left her it had been part of her that had left with him.. The part that made her better and without him she didn’t want to live, she couldn’t.
The brunette slid down the wall until she was sitting on the cold tile floor. Breathing was becoming harder and harder for her to do and she felt a shooting pain through her chest. It felt as if her heart was literally breaking in to a thousand pieces and she knew that she would never be able to piece it back together because her partner, her companion, her love, her soulmate was gone and with him every chance of her heart ever being whole again.
“How could you leave me?” She sobbed as she pulled her legs up to her chest her arms wrapping around them tightly. Holding herself that way seemed like the only way she could keep herself from falling completely apart not that she was doing a good job at that seeing how she was sitting in the middle of an empty hospital hallway rocking back and forth in an attempt to ease the pain not that she could ever ease the pain of losing the love of her life. “Why did you take him from me? Why take him and leave me here to deal with it all? How is this fair?” she cried out not really caring if anyone heard her. She was in pain and that was the only way she knew how to deal with it, by crying. It had to be better than her lashing out and destroying the place, right? She had thought about doing that but to do that she had to have energies and she was emotionally and physically drained. All the brunette wanted was to curl up in her bed and feels his arms wrap around her telling her that it would be okay that he would help her through it all but that would never happen.
She would no longer be able to just lay in bed in his arms talking about the silliest of things or not talking at all simply laying there and enjoying the sweet tender moments that they had. She would never hear his voice, hear him tease her, he would never make her laugh again. His soft sobs seemed to turn in to laughter as she recalled how he used to tease her just so he could get a laugh out of her whenever she was upset. Callie continued to laugh and tears continued to roll down her face. It was a mixture of feelings what she felt. She was angry that he broke his promise and left her, she was angry at herself for being angry at him, she was also happy that she had at least gotten to share some of her life with him but most of all she was terrified at what living without him would entail not to mention the pain she felt both emotionally and physically because physically she felt her body being stabbed with a thousand knives over and over again. And emotionally she was just ready to give up and join him because how could she live without him? She couldn’t do that though and she knew it and that angered and pained her more.
Her and Ben had shared the greatest love story that she had ever heard of and just like every great story it ended much too quickly and left you with great heartache and a void in your soul that could never be filled even if one wanted it to be not that she wanted the void filled. The void was going to forever be a reminder to her that she once had happiness; love… perfection and that perfection had come in the form of a man a man that had taught her so much and loved her the way no one else had ever been able to or would ever be able to.
With every tear she shed she felt the pain increasing and she only knew it would get worse as time went by. Time is said to heal all wounds however this would be one wound it would never heal. The pain was embedded in her being. Callie knew that everything she saw, everyone she talked to, everything she did it would all remind her of him and there was nothing that she could do to ever get over her one great true love.
