i was trying to come up with a good band!au for jltg and then i saw this post and i really feel like it's the perfect dynamic for a band!au like okay. in this au i feel like sam starts with some sort of indie solo project (wendover) that gets relatively popular in its genre and becomes friends with brian who's also got a solo project in a similar genre (i feel like brian as a math rock guy makes sense to me but maybe he could be some doom metal-esque subgenre? but that doesn't really work for a solo act) and brian does attempt to flirt with sam on multiple occasions but sam is either Not Getting It or just thinks that brian's flirting with everyone. brian resigns himself to the fact that he and sam are not gonna be a thing but he still tries to shoot his shot for fun on occasion. flash forward to sam meeting ben & adam and starting jet lag the band and blowing up to a more mainstream audience (i feel like they're pop rock?) while meanwhile brian has become a pretty big name in his genre. jumpcut to them meeting at an awards shot and after failing to chat up sam, brian starts talking with ben and is so shocked that ben flirts back that they almost immediately hookup at the afterparty.

#i will be honest the likelihood of me writing this fic is low #(bc i've already got two and a half jltgrpf wips)#but i liked this concept too much to let it die alone in my head #i feel like whatever sam & brian's solo projects are they aren't in a genre that's known for being really personal #like as much as i'd like for wendover to be some sort of car seat headrest-esque sound i don't think that his music is about his real life #at least not until jet lag the band and even then i think he hides behind ben & adam being the main lyricists #brian to me is either like. doom metal or math rock or edm lmao #which i know are all completely different genres but i feel like any of those three could be made to work #the only problem is that all three of those genres are too niche to be represented at a major awards show #but maybe he like. blows up on tiktok or does some insane story album that gets him more widespread attention #gang maybe i'm cooking with this #jltgrpf #jet lag the band #<- for my tag system just in case i talk about this more #benbrian #megs talks #megs writes #i mean. not really but. for organizational purposes kinda lol
